Switzerland focuses on transboundary water management in New York

A Swiss delegation is taking part in the UN's 2023 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), which is being held in New York from 10 to 19 July. The Swiss delegation hosted an event at the HLPF on transboundary water management as a driver of sustainable development and peace. The HLPF is a pivotal preparatory event for the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit to be held in September.


Ignazio Cassis meets with Maroš Šefčovič in Brussels

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, head of the FDFA, has met with Maroš Šefčovič, the European Commission's vice-president for interinstitutional relations and foresight. The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of the exploratory talks between Switzerland and the EU.

Swiss expertise bolsters humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine

The Swiss Confederation is using Swiss expertise to support humanitarian demining in Ukraine. It supports the Ukrainian authorities' activities and contributes to the clearance of mines and unexploded ordnance through projects carried out by the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) and the Fondation suisse de déminage (FSD).


United Nations Human Rights Council: Switzerland co-authors resolution on child, early and forced marriage

The 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council ended on 14 July. This session, which began on 19 June, focused on protecting the rights of women and girls, a sensitive issue within the council. Switzerland was particularly active, along with eleven other countries representing all regions of the world, in drafting a resolution on the fight against child, early and forced marriage.



Climate change and security: State Secretary Livia Leu attends OSCE High-Level Conference on Climate Change in Vienna

FDFA State Secretary Livia Leu took part today in the OSCE High-Level Conference on Climate Change, focusing on the impact of climate change on security and stability in the OSCE region. This follows State Secretary Leu's participation in the UN Security Council debate on climate security on 13 June 2023, highlighting Switzerland's commitment to addressing this critical issue.




Human rights dialogue between Switzerland and China

The 17th human rights dialogue with China took place on 3 and 4 July in Switzerland. The two countries' delegations took advantage of the confidential framework offered by the dialogue and a local visit for a direct, critical and open exchange. Switzerland is committed to the universal protection of human rights in China and around in the world. It makes use of a range of instruments at multilateral and bilateral level, including these dialogues.


Switzerland increases support for rehabilitation of Ukrainian schools

Switzerland continues to provide aid to Ukraine. Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis has approved an additional CHF 5.5 million to renovate and refurbish around 30 schools in Ukraine. The aim is to ensure that nearly 15,000 schoolchildren have access to a decent and safe education.

The head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) will visit Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan from 3 to 9 July 2023 to discuss a number of issues of mutual interest. Discussions will focus on bilateral relations, regional development, cooperation in multilateral forums, Switzerland's economic presence and regional water management.
