The current conflicts in Ukraine and Syria, dealing with foreign terrorist fighters (returnees from combat zones) and cooperation within the United Nations will be some of the topics of discussion at the meeting of the foreign ministers of German-speaking states on 27 November 2014 in Berlin. Also to be discussed will be possibilities for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe to contribute to security in Europe. The host of the meeting, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, will be joined by the Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, President Didier Burkhalter, the Austrian Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Education and Culture of Liechtenstein, Aurelia Frick.
The meeting of the foreign ministers of German-speaking states has been held every year since 2006 to discuss and coordinate issues of shared interest. Since Germany began to participate in 2012 it has been a quadrilateral event. Such regular meetings also strengthen ties and cooperation among the four countries, and contribute to good neighbourly relations and the exchange of information.
