With the award of the Pro Humanitate prize, the European cultural foundation Pro Europa distinguishes the work of the SHA and Toni Frisch in alleviating the impact of wars, armed conflicts and natural disasters on people throughout the world. Toni Frisch refers to the prize as major recognition of the world-wide activities of the SHA in saving human lives and alleviating suffering. At the same time, he said it was a duty and incentive to pursue the commitment, to uphold the great professionalism of the SHA’s members, and maintain the principles of humanity and human dignity. From 2001 to 2011, Toni Frisch was the delegate of the Swiss Confederation for Humanitarian Aid and Head of the SHA.
The Pro Humanitate Prize is awarded by the European Cultural foundation Pro Europa, which was founded in Basel, Switzerland. The award-presentation ceremony took place on 17 March 2012 in Bern under the patronage of the Presidents of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and of the European Parliament. The President of the Swiss Red Cross and former Federal Chancellor, Annemarie Huber-Hotz, presented the award.
