Consular Directorate

The Consular Directorate (CD) acts as a central contact point for efficient, customer-oriented consular services worldwide. It comprises three divisions: Citizen Services, Consular Protection, and Innovation and Partnerships. It provides information on these services around the clock via the FDFA Helpline and also maintains an advisory service providing general information on living abroad, emigration and returning to Switzerland.

In addition, it coordinates all matters relating to Swiss nationals living abroad within the Federal Administration. To this end, the CD works closely with other federal offices, cantonal bodies, foreign authorities and other national and international partners.

Finally, in the area of visas, the CD develops efficient working tools, processes and quality standards for Switzerland's network of representations abroad. It is responsible for outsourcing and liaises with the State Secretariat for Migration.
