The FDFA emphatically condemns the violent attacks in Benghazi on 11 September 2012 which led to the deaths of the US Ambassador in Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, and three employees of the American consulate.

The FDFA expresses its deepest sympathy with the United States. Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter, head of the FDFA, has sent a letter of condolence to the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. 

The FDFA will continue to observe very closely future developments in the security situation in Libya.
