Bern, Press releases, 15.08.2011

The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) has expressed its concern about the deterioration of the security situation in Geneva over recent months. To this effect, Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey, Head of the FDFA, addressed a letter last week to Geneva State Councillor Ms. Isabel Rochat, Head of the Department of Security, Police, and Protection of the Environment (DSPE).

International Geneva is a key pillar of Swiss foreign policy. As such, the framework conditions for the welcoming of international organizations and permanent missions are a priority matter, in particular any and all issues linked to security.

In an effort to resolve these issues, contact has been made with the Geneva authorities. As a result, the President of the Confederation will meet with a delegation from the Geneva State Council on 12 September 2011.
