The joint SDC-SECO report shows that the amount of Swiss official development assistance (ODA) rose in 2010 to CHF 2’393 million, or 0.41% of GDP. Switzerland thus ranks below the average for OECD countries (0.49% in 2010).
The 2010 report highlights the main results of Switzerland’s bilateral and multilateral cooperation in combating poverty, inequalities and situations of distress in the world. It also shows Switzerland’s contributions to the reduction of global risks including climate change, food security, migration, water management and economic governance.
Bilateral cooperation focuses on a number of priority countries in Africa (including in the Mediterranean area) as well as Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The SDC and SECO seek innovative solutions in such sectors as health and education, rural development and the management of natural resources, governance and economic development.
Major humanitarian disasters in 2010 resulted in 295,000 victims and damage estimated at USD 130 billion. Swiss humanitarian aid reacted to these challenges in a rapid, targeted and coordinated manner.
Swiss official development aid statistics and the amounts spent by the SDC and SECO are given at the end of the report by country and by sector.
