Bern, Press releases, 09.02.2011

Switzerland’s President, Micheline Calmy-Rey, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, will make an official working visit to Spain on 11 February 2011. The programme includes a meeting with Spain’s Prime Minister, José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero, and a working meeting followed by lunch with Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ms Trinidad Jiménez.

Bilateral relations between Switzerland and Spain are excellent and have featured numerous high-level meetings. The talks in Madrid will focus on a number of bilateral topics and current international affairs.

After her recent high-level meetings in Berlin, Budapest – with the current EU President – and Brussels at the European Commission, this trip to Madrid signals the willingness of the Swiss President to maintain bilateral contacts with the member states of the European Union and G20 countries throughout this year.
