The Fribourg International Film Festival presents a programme laced with humour and notion(s) of freedom. New this year: All the directors participating in the short film competition are invited to meet their counterparts from the other sections.The SDC's long-standing partnership with the festival is part of its commitment to support artists from the South and the East.
Food programmes alone are often not enough to alleviate chronic malnutrition. This conference on 18 March 2015 in Bern seeks to show how social innovations in nutrition can offer new solutions to chronic malnutrition.

The Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) will take place from 14 to 18 March 2015 in Sendai, Japan. Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter will take part in the conference on 14 and 15 March. He will then travel to Indonesia and subsequently to Sri Lanka for political discussions.

Artlink, the office for cultural cooperation, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The SDC has supported Artlink for many years. The Senegalese musician Kara Sylla Ka will give a concert at the PROGR artistic and cultural centre in Bern as part of the celebrations.

Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter attends the Munich Security Conference on Feb 7. The central themes at this year's Munich Security Conference include the Ukraine conflict and the future of European security.
From 21 to 24 January 2015 the 45th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) will be held in Davos, at which several members of the Federal Council will be represented. Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter will use his presence at the WEF inter alia to hold bilateral talks, including with the First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, and his French counterpart Laurent Fabius.

The President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, is taking part in the summit of the Visegrad Group in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. He will also meet the President of Slovakia, Andrej Kiska, Prime Minister Robert Fico, and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák for bilateral talks.
The state of being landless or without secure land titles often goes hand in hand with poverty, hunger and expulsion. Land is one of the most important resources of all, especially for the poor. Poor access to land compromises human rights such as the rights to food, water and health.
