Lugano Summer School - Support for health professionals and managers from Low- and Middle-Income Countries with a SOC health focus
Empowering the workforce at all levels and within each of the building blocks of the health system through training is mandatory for improving health system performance. Therefore the goal of the of the Lugano Summer School is to strengthen and sustain the capacity of health professionals in selected low and middle income countries to manage, develop and promote health services and health systems at conceptual, strategic, and operational levels.

Health systems in the majority of countries SOC is engaged in the health sector are in a state of transition, as these systems are increasingly influenced by global developments. Major challenges to overcome are mainly related to the implementation of sustainable health insurance systems, decentralization of health system governance, devolution of responsibilities to and capacity building at lower levels of government, among others. These challenges can only be met with an empowered health workforce at all levels of the achieved primarily through training to update their technical and managerial skills and to provide them with a basic understanding of emerging public health and health economics issues. |

The goal of the project is to strengthen and sustain the capacity of health professionals in selected low and middle income countries to manage, develop and promote health services and health systems at conceptual, strategic, and operational level. |
Gruppi target |
The beneficiaries will be SOC partners (health professionals and managers, senior executives and midlevel) of health service administrations, hospitals, and other health care delivery institutions, including public health services as well as non-governmental organizations |
Effetti a medio termine |
Health professionals involved in the health sector reform processes in their. countries are enabled to apply new knowledge, skills, and tools for technical and administrative management of health services and health systems and they are equipped with theoretical, technical and practical know-how. Health professionals from SOC focal countries are enabled to share knowledge, skills, experiences and practices with colleagues from other countries. SOC country partners and programs are supported by training health professionals in key roles. |
Risultati |
Risultati fasi precedenti: Joining the Lugano Summer School over the past years, more than 460 health professionals from LMIC have been enabled to encounter new expertise on health sector reform processes in transition countries, learned to apply relevant tools, and became familiar with the underlying methodologies. This enriched the process of change and increased the know-how of participating health professionals working in health services management at central and district level health systems. The new structure increases the opportunities for exchanges among all participants and also broadens the scope of topics participants can experience and discuss. |
