Contexto The international environment is characterised by numerous multiple crises. The consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the escalation in the Middle East, food insecurity, debt burden and inflation, climate change and the energy crisis are all having a direct impact on the world's population. They particularly affect the most vulnerable, mostly women and children, and result in increasing humanitarian needs. According to SC 183 million children across the world currently face the triple threat of high climate risks, multidimensional poverty and conflict. Accelerated change is accompanied by increased uncertainty: the world is becoming more fragmented, unstable and unpredictable. Whilst the vision to reach the Sustainable Development Goals remains, challenges including the accelerating global food and nutrition crisis, shrinking civic and humanitarian space, the erosion of rule of law, violations of child rights, intensifying armed conflicts, more frequent climate-related disasters, international migration and internal displacement, exacerbated demographics and an important gender gap hamper progress in reaching the SDG and pose a main challenge for all actors engaged in Switzerland’s International Cooperation. Multisectoral responses are needed to address immediate needs while working on the root causes of child-rights violations, reducing poverty and vulnerabilities and strengthening resilience. SC Switzerland can rely on SC global network's operational footprint in 113 countries to act fast in times of emergency while also engaging in forgotten or protracted crises and urban settings, as well working on longer-term risks and protective factors for children and youth.
Objetivos Children and youth most impacted by inequality and discrimination survive, learn, are protected and empowered within safe and resilient families, communities and societies.
Resultados del compromiso de la organización hasta la fecha (Note: SC Switzerland is a new partner regarding SDC core contributions):
In 2023, SC Switzerland reached nearly 1’800’000 people of whom 1’200’000 were children, including girls and boys with disabilities. Its newborn, child and maternal health and nutrition programming benefited to nearly 90’000 children and women. For example, in Myanmar (Kayin State), healthcare was provided to the most marginalized populations through two mobile clinic teams and 100 community-based health workers, including auxiliary midwives, delivering a comprehensive package of maternal and new-born healthcare. In Pakistan, through the support of SC Switzerland nearly 70’000 medical consultations were conducted to ensure access to health care and treatment for communities affected by the 2022 floods. These encompassed care for severely and moderately malnourished children as well as pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. When needed, boys and girls, including with disabilities, accessed mental health and psychosocial support. SC Switzerland also ensured sexual and gender-based violence support services. In Albania, it contributed to improve the health and well-being of more than 110’000 girls and boys through the integration of health education into the school curriculum, promoting healthy behaviours, and creating supportive school environments.
SC Switzerland supported nearly 30’000 children and youth, including girls and boys with disabilities, to access safe, inclusive, and quality learning opportunities in Albania, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kosovo, Lebanon, Nepal, Niger, Sudan and Syria. Regarding SC Switzerland’s engagement in child protection, 83% of surveyed children and youth in Egypt, Ethiopia, Senegal, Sudan, and Syria reported improved safety and well-being due to having their needs addressed. Furthermore, nearly 11’000 children and youth on the move were reached as a result of SC Switzerland’s outreach activities in the main locations along the migratory routes. In Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, 72% were referred to the relevant protection services following the appropriate procedure. 88% of children and youth attending SC's community service centres were satisfied with the support provided. Moreover, 80% of children and youth on the move targeted by context-specific protection and resilience building interventions reported that they were more confident and gained skills to improve their life perspectives.
Additionally, over 330’00 children and youth accessed trainings and awareness raising sessions on child rights, child protection and life skills.
