Emergency health response for vulnerable populations in selected health areas of Eastern DR Congo

Proyecto terminado

The population in the targeted areas of North Kivu remains vulnerable to elevated levels of morbidity and mortality as a consequence of the on-going attacks by different armed groups in the different project areas. These attacks show no sign of stopping, with new developments all over Eastern DRC. The abuses carried out by various armed actors include the pillaging of belongings, destruction of crops, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), abductions and killings.

Even though the situation in Eastern DRC is rapidly developing with more international pressure and very recent changes in the military situation, it remains in the grip of a complex crisis due to ongoing human rights violations against the civilian population which greatly impact their access to health care.

The impact of military victories remains to be seen. It is likely that initially it will provoke more fighting between the national army and certainly the other foreign-backed armed groups like FDLR, ADF/Nalu, FRPI and LRA.
