UN Women is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. It was established to accelerate progress on meeting needs of women and girls worldwide. It coordinates and promotes the UN system’s work in advancing gender equality linked to the 2030 Agenda. UN Women is a key partner of Switzerland in ensuring progress on gender equality and SDG 5, a key objective of Switzerland’s strategies 2024-2027 on Foreign Policy and 2025-2028 on International Cooperation.

- The Strategic Plan 2022-2025 reflects Switzerland’s priorities and UN Women is committed to act as UNDS reform champion.
- Swiss pilot funding contributed to the strategic elevation of the economic empowerment pillar in the new Strategic Plan, which is showing good results,
- UN Women and the other funds and programmes report on system-wide results achieved jointlyo n an annual basis.
- Assessment on the oversight and governance function of the Executive Boards of UN Women and the other F+Ps.
- The UN Women office in Geneva is strengthened, with the humanitarian team now located there.
- Switzerland regarded as an important partner, which was exemplified when Switzerland hosted the UN Women Top Funding Partner Roundtable in April 2024.

- emphasis on functional multilateralism: UN Women’s triple mandate with a focus on coordination to improve system-wide coherence, inter-agency collaboration and partnerships;

- Support improved institutional effectiveness, in particular safeguarding the independence of the evaluation function, and actively contributing to follow-up measures of the assessment on the oversight and governance function of the Executive Board.
- Monitor implementation of the UNDS reform with a focus on inter-agency coherence and cooperation.
- Demand improved monitoring and reporting on the reform implementation as well as on jointly achieved results with other agencies.
- Work with SDC country offices and UN Women at country level to ensure gender equality is prioritized in new UN Cooperation Frameworks.
- Increase the number of Swiss professionals working at UN Women.

Área de competencias | UN Women was established in 2010 with the main goal to achieve gender equatity, the empowerment of all women and girls and the full enjoyment of their human rights. UN Women leverages its triple mandate - i.e. normative, coordination and operational engagement - to lead, coordinate and promote the accountability of the United Nations system to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment. It does so by working through UN system-wide mechanisms. Through its work, UN Women not only contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 (“Gender Equality”), but also the Agenda 2030 and its 17 sustainable goals as a whole given the transversal nature of matters regarding gender equality. |
Prioridades estratégicas de Suiza y de la organización | The Strategy for International Cooperation 2025-2028 includes UN Women as one of Swiss development cooperation's priority multilateral development organisations. UN Women's priorities and activities on gender equality and women’s empowerment further align with the strategic priorities as outlined in the Swiss Foreign Policy Strategy 2024-2027, the FDFA Strategy on Gender Equality and Women’s Rights, as well as the Swiss Gender Equality Strategy 2030. The work of UN Women is guided by the Agenda 2030, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discriminationa gainst Women, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. and several resolutions of the United Nations an women’s rights gender equality and the empowerment of women, which Switzerland ratified or fully supported. |
