30th Fribourg International Film Festival

viernes, 11.03.2016 – sábado, 19.03.2016

Öffentlicher Anlass; Kulturveranstaltung

The 30th edition of the Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) is dedicated to women. The SDC has supported the festival, which promotes film-making in the South and East, since its inception.

The programme features 126 films from 62 countries – mainly productions from Asia, Africa and Latin America – and runs from 11 to 19 March 2016. At the heart of the festival is the international competition, which includes 13 feature-length and around 20 short films this year.

The individual parallel sections are focusing on films made by women and/or telling women's stories. In the genre section for example two films portraying women boxers are going to be screened: the Indian film "Mary Kom" and the documentary film "Boxing for Freedom" about Afghanistan's top female boxer. In the 'Terra Incognita' section the festival presents a retrospective of films from all over Africa that were made between 1970 and 2010 and place the work of African female directors in the limelight. This will also be the first time that the talented Kaouther Ben Hania's "Le challat de Tunis" can be seen in the German-speaking world. The film will be premiered in Bern on 7 March at 6.15pm at CineMovie 1.
