Joseph Ntirandekura, electrician

“I am 26 years old and I come from Kanjongo sector, Nyamasheke district. At the age of 12 I lost my father. I had to leave school and become a street child because I had no other choice. I could not find a job and often went hungry.

One day, I heard from Kanjongo sector’s Social Affairs service about vocational skills training opportunities with the support of Switzerland. I made a training application in the group of domestic electricity and the response was positive. The training lasted 42 days.

After the training I began work as an electrician in Kanjongo sector/Nyamasheke district where local government is currently supplying electricity. I have already bought tools for electricians and I can provide my basic needs and support my family with an income of RWF 25,000 per month. We have already created a cooperative together with my colleagues in order to get more money as we plan to compete for big tenders. I’m very happy and I sincerely thank Switzerland.”
