Bern, 18.11.2024 - From 18 to 21 November 2024, Martina Hirayama, State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, will travel to Kenya and Tanzania on a scientific mission. In Nairobi, she will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen scientific cooperation between Kenya and Switzerland. In Dar es Salaam, Ms Hirayama will meet the Tanzanian Minister of Education, Science and Technology, as well as other dignitaries.

Today, 12 August, marks the 75th anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Conventions – the “Laws of War”, the “one set of rules we all agree on”. The four Geneva Conventions of 1949, the two Additional Protocols of 1977 and the Additional Protocol of 2005 form the core of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), setting out international law in regards to the conduct of war, especially on the treatment of prisoners and civilians.

With support from the Swiss and Danish Embassies, SNV Tanzania implemented the second phase of the Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) project in Singida and Morogoro Regions between 2021 and 2024. The project aimed at improving the livelihoods of over 4,000 out-of-school youth aged 18 to 30 living in rural and peri urban areas. OYE brought together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors who had the potential to build capacities and foster relationships with the youth.
