The SDC will showcase a variety of projects from around the world at the coming LUGA, the Spring Fair of Central Switzerland, which takes place in Lucerne. Visitors will have the opportunity to find out more about the SDC and try tasty delicacies from a range of countries.

Location: Lucerne, Lucerne Fair

Worldwide around 500 million smallholder family-run farms produce approximately 50% of the world’s food supply. Agriculture continues to be the most important source of income in the world. One third of the world’s working population is employed in agriculture – but this also includes 70% of the world’s population living in poverty.

With its special show, ‘Beyond one’s own four kitchen walls’ at the LUGA, the SDC will present interesting and colourful examples of the programmes it carries out in various sectors and regions of the world. The theme is smallholder farmers from all around the world: How do they protect their stored crops from harmful insects? What do specialists advise them to do when their crops are infested by pests? How do they maintain their production levels while using less water? The SDC will also showcase a vocational training programme in Niger, a job-creation project in Kosovo, and instruments used in providing humanitarian aid.

Various delicacies from a range of countries, a small café, and a cinema screening films about the SDC invite visitors to spend time at the fair, discover new things, ask questions and discuss current issues.

Admission: Adults CHF 15, reduced tickets CHF 10, children up to six free.
