Cultural event

From 3 to 8 November 2015 film makers from around the world will present a variety of short films at the 19th Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur. The Arab world is this year's 'Main Focus', while the 'Country in Focus' section takes a look at Bhutan and Nepal.

Location: Winterthur

The Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur will take place from 3 to 8 November 2015. As part of its commitment to culture, the SDC has been supporting the festival since 2008 to promote films from the South and East, as well as those involved in their production.

The 'Main Focus' section, entitled 'Arab Encounters – Visions and Realities' presents short film programmes  which offer an inside glimpse of films by Arab film makers for an Arab audience and introduce Western audiences to fresh perspectives.

In Bhutan and Nepal a young, independent film scene is waiting to be discovered, with film makers using the short film to experiment and tell new stories.   The 'Country in Focus' section gives insight into the film industry in two countries experiencing radical political change.  The works take pleasure in providing a fresh, experimental take on their subject matter, using a wide variety of cinematic techniques.

'5x5x5' project

After a first series of documentaries in 2011, the Kurzfilmtage are relaunching the '5x5x5' project in collaboration with Langfilm/Bernard Lang AG, Zurich University of the Arts, Ivana Lalovic and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Five film makers are making five films in the space of five weeks on the topic 'In Exile' to premiere at the Winterthur festival. The film makers taking part this year are from Ukraine, Russia, Syria, Palestine and Israel.

The detailed programme will be released on 14 October. Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2015
