The President of the Council of States (= Senate), Jean-René Fournier, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan from 8 to 11 October 2019. During the visit, he met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the Speaker of Parliament Ogtay Asadov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov. Bilateral relations and regional issues were discussed during the meetings.
Mr. Fournier also visited the Baku Khazar Women Resource Centre established by the Swiss financed project “Women’s Economic Empowerment”. The Centre has supported several women in establishing new businesses since March 2019. The President of the Council of States also visited the production sites of the Swiss companies Holcim in Garadagh and SIKA in Sumgayit.
