Nagorno Karabakh: FDFA calls for an end to violence and supports ICRC humanitarian operations

Bern, 20.10.2020 - The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) has allocated CHF 1 million for the humanitarian operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The FDFA also calls for an immediate stop to the violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Attacks on the civilian population and civilian objects must cease. The parties to the conflict are called upon to comply with international humanitarian law.

Bern, 01.11.2018 - Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, paid an official visit to Azerbaijan between 29 and 30 October, where he met the Minister of Education. A joint declaration on intensifying bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, research and innovation was signed during the meeting. The State Secretary also met with the President of Azerbaijan.

The multilateral system protects countries which are not military powers, like Switzerland, said Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis on Wednesday at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs also drew a positive assessment of his first participation in the General Assembly: "This first visit gave me a better sense of how multilateralism works and its need for reform."
