Driving of a motor vehicle registered with diplomatic "CD" license plates, applicable to members of personnel of permanent missions (PM) and international organisations (IO)
Vehicles registered with "CD" license plates
Vehicles of persons enjoying diplomatic status – Heads of mission (PM) and members of the senior management (IO) as well as diplomatic agents (PM) and high ranking officials (IO) (holders of a "B" or "C" legitimation card) – are registered with diplomatic "CD" license plates.
Eligibility
In general, only the owner of a vehicle registered with "CD" license plates is authorised to drive the vehicle. Nonetheless family members enjoying diplomatic status may drive the vehicle with the "CD" license plates of the principle beneficiary.
Family members enjoying diplomatic status and who have been issued a Ci permit in exchange for a "B" or "C" legitimation card are authorised to drive the vehicle with the "CD" license plates of the principle beneficiary. The Ci permit of a family member enjoying diplomatic status has a special sticker on it which indicates that the person in question is entitled to the diplomatic status.
Non-eligibility
Family members who do not enjoy diplomatic status, such as those of Swiss nationality, holders of an authorisation for residence or establishment (permit B or C) or holders of a different type of legitimation card, may not drive the vehicle with the "CD" license plates of the principle beneficiary.
Official cars
Heads of missions (PM), members of the senior management (IO) and professional chauffeurs (PM/IO) are authorised to drive official vehicles registered with "CD" license plates.
