One Health for Humans, Environment, Animals, and Livelihoods (HEAL)

Access to basic health and veterinary services is challenging in (agro-)pastoralist societies in the Horn of Africa due to unfavourable environmental and climatic conditions and limited delivery of basic services. Using a One Health approach, Switzerland promotes an innovative integrated human/livestock/environmental health service model, contributing to improved health, reduced vulnerability and increased livelihood resilience.


UNICEF Yemen, Thematic Contribution to Child Protection Programme

01.11.2024 - 31.12.2025

Through this thematic multi-year contribution, SDC provides flexible funding to UNICEF’s Child Protection Pro-gramme in Yemen. This partnership integrates humanitarian and development efforts to strengthen child protec-tion systems, improve the quality of prevention and response services and promote positive behaviour change within communities. Ultimately, this initiative aims to create a safer and more protective environment for children and adolescents in Yemen.


Microwork for Youth (Pilot)

01.09.2024 - 31.12.2026

The Microwork for Youth Pilot project aims at strengthening the economic resilience of Yemeni youth that are currently profiting from unconditional cash transfer under a broader WB/UNDP project. It focuses on increasing the employment rate of poor, low-skilled and vulnerable young individuals and provides them with in-demand digital skills training, as well as access to income-generating opportunities in the microwork sector locally and globally.


Survey and Mapping Mines and Explosive Hazards in Yemen

01.08.2024 - 31.07.2026

The two-year project aims to protect civilian lives and livelihoods in frontline areas through the systematic map-ping of weapon-contaminated areas, timely disposal of explosive ordnances in and around homes, and providing comprehensive explosive ordnance risk education. Special attention will be given to vulnerable groups, particu-larly children. Given the severe threat posed by explosive ordnances in Yemen, this project is essential for im-proving safety, enabling access to vital resources and services, and contributing to conducive conditions for return.


Building agile leadership and development initiative (BALADI)

01.07.2024 - 31.12.2027

The project focuses on strengthening the organizational capacities and leadership of national and local actors in Yemen to foster a more equitable, risk-informed, and locally-driven humanitarian and development system. At its core is the establishment of a Humanitarian Development Study Centre, which will serve as a hub for local ca-pacity building and collaboration. This effort is further supported by systemic initiatives that promote an inclusive bottom-up transformation of the response in Yemen.


Contributions to WFP protracted crises Country Strategic Plans in 2024

The World Food Programme (WFP) is one of Switzerland’s key multilateral partners due to its unique double mandate of "saving lives" and "changing lives" around food security. The WFP Strategic Plan 2022-2025 lays out the overall objectives in order to eradicate hunger. Contributing to WFP programmes in selected countries with protracted humanitarian needs allows Switzerland to achieve the humanitarian and development goals defined in its Strategy on International Cooperation for 2021-2024.


Contributions 2024 to ICRC Country Programs in protracted crises

01.01.2024 - 31.12.2024

The ICRC is the most important partner of SDC in the humanitarian field. About one third of the SDC Humanitarian Aid budget is allocated to the ICRC. The contribution of CHF 56 million to ICRC country programs reflects Switzerland’s interest to have a strong ICRC throughout the world and to contribute to alleviate the suffering of people affected by conflicts.


RISE - Resilience and Innovation Support and Empowerment Project

01.11.2023 - 31.10.2025

The initiative strengthens the economic resilience of Yemeni entrepreneurs and micro / small business with a view of enhancing livelihood opportunities of Yemenis. The initiative further responds to the protracted crisis in Yemen, which requires the strengthening of livelihoods for the Yemeni people and a shift towards enhancing local capacities.


Humanity & Inclusion: Integrated services for specific needs of the crisis-affected population in Yemen

01.07.2023 - 30.06.2025

HI provides comprehensive and tailored services to address the specific needs of individuals affected by the conflict and crisis in Yemen, with a view of enhancing independence, mental well-being, and preventing long-term disability. Special attention is given to vulnerable groups, including those with injuries and disabilities, women, children, internally displaced populations, and caregivers.


Geneva Call: From Rhetoric to Reality: Strengthening Protection of Conflict Affected Civilians in Yemen

01.05.2023 - 30.04.2026

The project aims at strengthening the respect of humanitarian norms and principles by armed actors, generating awareness, knowledge, policies and behaviour change to promote the protection of civilians. The project will build on earlier phase and strengthen dissemination of humanitarian norms, enhance the capacity of community-based organizations and networks to engage with armed actors and finally generate evidence-based studies to inform appropriate actions and advocacy.

Contribution to UNHCR Programme Budget 2023-2024 (earmarked)

UNHCR is one of Switzerland’s key multilateral partners due to its unique mandate by the General Assembly of United Nations to provide protection and assistance to refugees, asylum seekers, refugee returnees, and stateless persons. The strategic direction 2022-26 concretise the overall mandate of UNHCR for the upcoming years. Contributing to these directions allows Switzerland to achieve in particular the human development goal defined in the Dispatch to Parliament on International Cooperation for 2021-24.


Institutional Strengthening Action Program of IGAD – ISAP IV

01.01.2023 - 31.12.2025

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is the sub-regional organization in the Horn of Africa. In line with Switzerland’s decision to increase its engagement with IGAD, the proposed contribution aims at reinforcing IGAD’s corporate performance, operational efficiency and building a coherent and collaborative engagement between IGAD and stakeholders for increased transparency and accountability. Hence contributing to greater stability and policy coherence in the Horn of Africa.
