The Theatre Vidy-Lausanne is again invited to Budapest this year, to perform on the occasion of the Madách International Theatre Meeting“(MITEM). This year they’re going to present their piece “The Seagull” by A. Chekhov on Thursday the 21st of April 2016 at 8 p.m. at the National Theatre Budapest.

What is it about?

In the heat of the Russian summer, love troubles couldn’t be more complicated: the teacher loves Masha, Masha loves the young theater author Konstantin, Konstantin himself, loves an actress called Nina, and Nina on the other hand, is in love with the successful writer Trigorin. Chekhov’s piece ‒written in 1895 ‒ shows a group of people in the summer, who lose their aim in life in a moving and tragic way. All struggle for love and recognition; the older ones defend what they have, the young can’t reach what they want. A sad grotesque comedy about the ridiculousness of human existence in a time where all ideals are lost.
