This summer, the Embassy of Switzerland invited nine artists from Switzerland to pursue residencies in China as part of the CH><CN Studios program. We also invited seven Chinese artists with international study or work experience to participate. As a major outcome of the Swiss Embassy’s “CH><CN Studio” project, Breakdown Playlist brings together the latest works of these 16 emerging artists from both countries.

Audiences in Shanghai and Hong Kong are invited to the screenings of Keeper, an award-winning film focusing on the popular topic of teen pregnancy. Maxime and Mélanie, both 15 years old, are in love. One day, Mélanie finds out she is pregnant. While Mélanie has yet to make up her mind about keeping the baby or not, Maxime wants to keep it no matter what. Director Guillaume Senez and Swiss rising star Kacey Mottet Klein give a deep analysis of the characters and the topic.
This is the first show in Asia for Swiss artistic duo Pablo Togni and Christian Rebecchi, better known as NEVERCREW. They began to collaborate in 1995 while attending art school in Lugano, designing graphics and illustrations for vinyls and mix-tapes. Initially influenced by 90’s hip-hop culture and the art of comics, the two began to develop their unique visual storytelling style in their grafitti work, embedding political and environmental messages in strikingly hyper-realistic large-scale works. The distinctive style of NEVERCREW blends two and three dimensional spaces, integrating disconnected elements to convey society’s deeply conflicting reliance on both natural and mechanical systems. By casting their concepts on large public surfaces, NEVERCREW brings their messages into dialogue with the public, extending our examination of humankind’s core struggle to strike a balance between the demands of lifestyle, efficiency and our collective obligations towards our environment.

Daniel de Roulet is a French-speaking Swiss writer. After his education as an architect, he earned his life as an IT specialist in telecommunication.Since 1997 he has devoted himself entirely to writing.He is the author of some thirty books, including a cycle of ten novels that trace, through the history of two families, the heroic deed of nuclear power from Hiroshima to Fukushima, from the triumph of science to questioning of its excess.Daniel de Roulet is also the author of travel stories, including "Tous les lointains sont bleus" published by Phébus, and critical essays, including "Tu n’as rien vu à Fukushima".The writer will be present for a reading of his latest work “Territoire terrestre” and to dedicate his book.

The residency project will be organized for the fifth time with young professionals from the Francophone countries and China. This year’s theme is pastry. In collaboration with the Jinsong Conventional School in Beijing, Changsha ‘La Belle Vie’ Institution, the embassies of Switzerland, France, Morocco, the Delegation Wallonie-Bruxelles, and the Office of Québec, 10 French-speaking and 10 Chinese-speaking young professionals will be engaged in a three-week workshop in Beijing and Changsha to develop new recipes and works, with coaches from their native countries.

The European Union Gala Concert is a musical celebration of European films. “Window” refers to both the clarinet and the namesake object as a metaphor. A window invites viewers to escape towards distant and poetic horizons. The Trio Window ensemble therefore wishes to share their passion for music with audiences. The Trio Window is formed by Swiss clarinetist Damien Bachmann, pianist Christian Chamorel, and cellist Estelle Revaz. Each has been lauded in their own right. During their chamber concert tour in China, the ensemble will play classics by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and David Popper.
