Consulate General of Switzerland in New York

Project Manager Culture (80%) -- Limited Term (6 month)

Starting date: as soon as possible

The Consulate General of Switzerland in New York represents and promotes the interests of Switzerland and of Swiss citizens in its jurisdiction. The Public Diplomacy Division is seeking a qualified candidate to support the Cultural Section for a 6-month duration. The Cultural and Education Section facilitates exchanges and collaborations in all areas of the arts and culture. It does so by leveraging its network and partnerships with cultural and educational institutions, by hosting events and by promoting cultural projects through its newsletter and social media channels.

Our ideal candidate has a strong background in music and performing arts, is well connected with the cultural life of New York and has experience as an event producer. The candidate is proactive, creative, has an outgoing personality and a strong command of the English language. The person has a passion for international affairs and an understanding of Switzerland. The candidate will be able to multitask between several duties at once and can work under pressure independently or in a team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate and manage projects in the fields of music, film, literature and performing arts
  • Develop activities with academic institutions in our consular district
  • Grow and nurture the Consulate's network of artists and cultural / educational institutions
  • Identify networking opportunities and potential partnerships with cultural institutions
  • Set up virtual conferences, using platforms like Skype for Business, Webex, Microsoft Teams
  • Manage the technical setting at events
  • Support the team with administrative duties and perform other tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s, preferably Master’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in project and/or event management
  • Extensive knowledge of the art and culture scenes in both the United States and Switzerland,  particularly in the fields of film, music and/or other performing arts
  • Strong command of English, basic knowledge of a Swiss national language would be an asset
  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities
  • Willingness to work outside of regular working hours
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

The purpose of these academic internships is to offer students or recent graduates an opportunity to discover the activities of a Swiss representation abroad and to become familiar with the diverse aspects of a diplomatic career.

All positions are full-time (40 hours per week) and run for 6 months. Remuneration for the positions is USD 2,700 per month.

The Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations

Driver/Messenger/Handyperson (100%)

Starting date: December 1, 2020 (or upon agreement)

Job Description:

You will be the Driver/Messenger/Handyperson, providing safe and dependable airport pickups and general transportation for the Ambassador  and various VIPs, facilitating efficient messenger services for the Mission, and acting as a handyperson to complete additional tasks around the office as needed. Your responsibilities include picking up and dropping off the Ambassador at various locations in New York City, including but not limited to the airport, the residence, the Mission, and the United Nations. Additionally, you will bring important messages, documents, packages and other items to and from these same, as well as other, locations. Finally, your role includes maintaining a clean and functional office, and performing moving and maintenance jobs as required. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and organized individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a track record of hands-on experience.

You will receive the necessary training on the job. You will work in a team of approximately 35 employees in a high-rise building in Manhattan. Offices are modern, spacious and bright.

Requirements:

  • Valid United States driver’s license
  • History of good driving and vigilant in obeying traffic laws and speed limits
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Primary education, secondary education is considered an asset
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant, hands-on work experience and preferably as a driver or messenger in New York City
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • High degree of personal integrity and trustworthiness
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluent English, knowledge of a Swiss national language an asset
