Science, Technology and Education Office

Australia is Switzerland's most important research partner outside of Europe and North America. Switzerland is one of Australia'a top ten research partners and a strategic priority country under the National Science and Innovation Agenda.

The Office of Science, Technology and Education observes and analyses developments in the Australian science, innovation and higher education policy and works closely with the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).

The Office serves as an interface between the science, technology and education communities in Switzerland and Australia. It works with government, associations, universities and businesses to create good framework conditions for collaboration, provides information and facilitates contacts for example by organising bilateral networking or matchmaking events and joint projects. It manages the appliccations for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships from Australia and other states within its consular district and promotes Switzerland as a place of excellence in science, technology and education and therefore as a hub of innovation. The Office is also the contact point in Australia for the Trainee Exchange Program with Switzerland.

The office is headed by Mark Engler, who is part of the overseas network of Science and Technology Counselors, attached to the SERI. For more information on the SERI network of scientific advisors and swissnex offices, click here.

A key ingredient to Switzerlands excellence in innovation is the strength of its universities. This strengh has been confirmed in a new ranking by Thomson Reuters which puts four Swiss institutes in the top 25. It is therefore certainly no coincidence that the recent Australian "innovation delegation", led by Chief Scientist Dr. Alan Finkel, has also included a visit to Switzerland.
