The Mission of Switzerland to the EU and economiesuisse organise a roundtable on Trade and the rise of protectionism:
Integrated industrial value chains in Europe: can the European industry withstand trade tensions?
Case studies from the steel and aluminum industries
on Wednesday 9th January 2019 at 17:30
at the Mission of Switzerland to the EU, Place du Luxembourg 1, 1050 Brussels.
Industrial production nowadays relies on highly integrated European value chains. Recent events such as US tariffs on steel and aluminum, uncertainty about rules and the risk of trade diversion have weakened the prospects of the European industry. The precarious situation of Swiss industrial firms in highly integrated regional value chains sheds light on policy responses to external trade shocks.
How do firms work across borders in Europe? What is a business-friendly response to such challenges? How to protect regional value chains? With testimonies from representatives of the steel and aluminium industry, this roundtable gives the floor to business.
