Italy – Digital COVID Certificate (Certificazione verde COVID-19) required for numerous activities

In Italy the presentation of a Digital COVID Certificate (Certificazione verde COVID-19 / Green Pass) is compulsory for various services and activities. Children under the age of twelve are exempted.

Starting from 06.12.2021, the “Green Pass rafforzato” (available only after vaccination or full recovery from Covid-19) will be issued. Persons who are already in possession of a Green Pass issued after vaccination or full recovery from COVID-19 do not need to download a new Certificate.

From 06.12.2021 to 15.01.2021, throughout Italy, the "Green Pass rafforzato” will be requested for the following services:

  • Indoor service at restaurants
  • Shows and sportive events
  • Parties and clubs
  • Public events

Furthermore, starting from 06.12.2021, the Green Pass requirements will be extended to the following services:

  • Hotels
  • Regional trains
  • Local Public transportation
  • Changing rooms for sports activities

Currently, it is requested for (non-exhaustive list):

  • Indoor service at restaurants
  • Shows, museums, sportive events and amusement parks
  • Thermal/wellness centers and swimming pools (including those indoors of the establishment)
  • to board planes
  • to board inter regions boats and ferries (except for ferry service in the Strait of Messina)
  • to board inter cities and high speed trains
  • Long-distances buses or chartered buses

The Digital COVID Certificate needs to attest either the vaccination with at least one dose, a negative test result of a PCR (carried out in the last 72 hours) or antigenic swab test (carried out in the last 48 hours) or the full recovery from COVID-19 within the past six months.

The validity of Certificates for vaccinated persons is the same as that of Certificates issued by the Italian state. In Italy, starting from 15 December 2021, the validity of Certificates for vaccinated persons (for vaccines following the first inoculation or after recovery) will pass from 12 to 9 months.

Please note that a certificate certifying the first inoculation of a two-doses vaccine (second dose pending) is not enough to enter Italy from abroad.
