“Kirti Mandir” was constructed in Vadodara by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1936. The central hall of this edifice contains several impressive murals painted by the renowned artist of the Bengal School of Art, Nandalal Bose. Experts from Switzerland and India will deliver talks (open for public) and organise practical demonstrations in the fields of conservation of wall paintings on the site (entry by invitation only). During a candid chat about work, life, language, society and migration, cross border movement and much more, Swiss author Dorothee Elmiger reads from her latest novel. She received for this novel the Swiss Literature Award 2015 by the Federal office of Culture. Translation to come out soon.

This exhibition is a tribute to the Swiss artist’s Alice Boner (1889 - 1981) promotion of cultural knowledge and understanding between the East and the West. Her encounter with Uday Shankar, and her commitment for his dance troupe gave her life the crucial twist. She settled in Varanasi and contributed significantly to the worldwide sensitization and understanding of India’s art history. In 1974, she received the Padma Bhushan from the President of India, Shri V. V. Giri, for her outstanding contributions.
