Alice from Switzerland – A Visionary Artist and Scholar across two continents

This exhibition is a tribute to the Swiss artist’s Alice Boner (1889 - 1981) promotion of cultural knowledge and understanding between the East and the West. Her encounter with Uday Shankar, and her commitment for his dance troupe gave her life the crucial twist. She settled in Varanasi and contributed significantly to the worldwide sensitization and understanding of India’s art history. In 1974, she received the Padma Bhushan from the President of India, Shri V. V. Giri, for her outstanding contributions.

Opening on 1st September at 5.00 pm in the presence of Mr. B.R. Mani, Director General of National Museum and Mr. Gilles Roduit, Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. of Switzerland.

On view daily from 10 am to 5 pm (Closed on Mondays and National Holidays)

Curated by the Museum Rietberg, Switzerland, the exhibition is presented in India with the collaboration of the National Museum, the Alice Boner Institute Varanasi and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai.
