SYRIA- UNRWA- Emergency Cash Assistance to Conflict-Affected Palestinian Refugees in Syria

The ongoing crisis in Syria has negatively impacted the lives of more 225'000 Palestine refugees, causing displacement and a significant deterioration of their humanitarian situation. Food and non food items remain a priority for the displaced refugees. UNRWA proposes to support some 20'500 Palestine refugees with cash assistance what will help the refugees to meet their immediate basic needs and strengthen their ability to cope better with the current circumstances.

Postharvest management in Sub-Saharan Africa – FAO/IFAD/WFP

Food losses in Sub-Saharan Africa account for almost one third of the production and occur mostly at postharvest handling and at processing level. The goal of this project is to reduce postharvest losses for improved food security of smallholder farmers. The project will be jointly implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) focusing of the establishment of a global community of practice to enhance knowledge management, sharing and e-learning, as well as support to policy development in the tree pilot countries, at regional and global levels.

The World Vegetable Center: Vegetables-go-to-School. Improving nutrition by agricultural diversification

National task forces composed of national partners and local communities in six African and Asian countries, supported by the World Vegetable Center (AVRDC), will implement of a comprehensive school vegetable garden program to improve the nutritional status of its beneficiaries thanks to increased production and availability of vegetables and fruit. Scientific evidence that a diversified diet enriched through vegetables and fruit has a positive impact on nutrition of school children shall be generated as integral part of the program.

Programme d’éducation alternative des jeunes (PEAJ) - Phase I

Au Niger, plus de 2 millions d’enfants et de jeunes, déscolarisés ou non scolarisés, soit deux tiers de la population de 9 à14 ans, n’accèdent pas à l’éducation. Ce programme mettra en place 200 centres d’éducation alternative au bénéfice de 12’000 jeunes dans les régions de Dosso et Maradi afin de produire des résultats pouvant constituer un effet levier sur l’ensemble du pays. Les jeunes issus de ces centres pourront intégrer le cursus scolaire, la vie active ou une formation professionnelle.

Cooperation for the protection of our natural assets

In Hungary, the total area protected either by national or EU legislation has grown to 22 % of the total territory. The project collects extensive data on protected natural areas of local interest and on Natura 2000 areas. Based on this data, the project organises an important awareness raising campaign (with information events, competitions, webpage) and enhances the protection of natural areas of local interest.

Support to Anti-Corruption Efforts in Kosovo (SAEK)

SAEK is a comprehensive anticorruption programme which takes an innovative approach towards anti-corruption, working directly with central government authorities and municipal actors as well as with civil society. The project contributes to reducing the level of corruption in Kosovo by supporting the prevention, detection and investigation of both grand corruption and petty corruption.

Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development - Research Module on Employment

SDC and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) are offering a new long-term funding scheme for development-relevant research on global issues (www.r4d.ch). The main focus lies on the generation of new insights and solutions as well as on the application of research results into policy and practice through partnership projects between researchers from Switzerland and from developing countries. The overall r4d.ch program consists of five thematic modules and a module for thematically open research. The second module focuses on employment in the context of sustainable development.

A la demande de l’Etat burkinabè, divers Etats soutiennent l’organisation de ces élections significatives en termes de démocratisation. Participant au panier commun géré par le Programme des Nations unies pour le développement (PNUD), la Suisse appuie la Commission électorale nationale indépendante (CENI). Ce projet poursuit les objectifs du Message sur la coopération internationale 2013-16.

MKAJI – Maji kwa Afya ya Jamii: Upgrading Water Supply in Health Facilities of Dodoma Region

Water and sanitation (WASH) is one of the most important social determinants of health. Upon request of regional authorities, SDC will upgrade water supply and sanitation systems in 100 primary health facilities in Dodoma region. This intervention will considerably reduce the high risk of infection transmission and improve quality of care in health facilities. Water management and hygiene promotion in and with communities will complement hardware investments.

The goal of this project is to reduce postharvest losses for improved food security of smallholder farmers. Helvetas and its partners will work in Benin and Mozambique and cooperate closely with key multilateral, governmental and nongovernmental organizations in identifying and bringing good practices of postharvest management to scale and to advocate for a conducive policy environment.

The Third Sustainable Livelihoods Project (SLP3) aims to foster improved rural local governance and effective service provision by building capacity and institutionalizing community participation in the planning and delivery of priority investments. It will do so by supporting the implementation of the new Integrated Budget Law (IBL), which is the centrepiece of the government’s decentralization reform process. SLP3 will provide essential training, development and performance grants to all 330 soums and benefit 40% of Mongolia’s population.
