18 October is the European Day against Human Trafficking. For the third time since 2013, Switzerland is using this day as an occasion to host different events in Bern. The events will be organised by a platform comprised of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP), and representatives of the cantons, the City of Bern and civil society. The Swiss office of the International Organization for Migration is in charge of coordination. On 18 October, former Federal Councillor Ruth Dreifuss and the head of security of the City of Bern, Reto Nause, will attend the dedication of an information bus that will tour Switzerland for one year and will at the same time kick off the Swiss Action Weeks. Over 20 cantons have already announced their participation in the Action Weeks, which will run from 17 October to 3 November 2017.
 
That same day, the FDFA will co- host a conference at the Kursaal in Bern on human trafficking along migration routes. Invited speakers include the ambassador for development, migration and forced displacement, a police expert seconded by the FDFA's Human Security Division to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, an Italian prosecutor, and other experts from Switzerland and abroad. National Councillor Yvonne Feri will deliver the opening address at the conference.
