High-level mission of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs to Tajikistan

On  27 August 2022, Ambassador Martin Saladin, the Head of Operations of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) along with other representatives of SECO has arrived in Tajikistan for a week visit.

The aim of the visit is to meet with the Government of Tajikistan, to get acquainted with Swiss funded projects in the country, meet partners and discuss issues of economic development of Tajikistan.

During his mission, Ambassador Saladin will visit the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO), where the Government of Switzerland has been active for the last 25 years and has invested more than USD 50 mio. The Khorog Urban Resilience Programme, Pamir Private Power Phase III, Khorog Solid Waste and Water Supply and Sanitation are the main water and infrastructure projects funded in GBAO by the Government of Switzerland through SECO. 

Ambassador Saladin will sign an Agreement with Mr. Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, the Minister of Finance of Tajikistan on allocation of additional USD 2,33 mio to the Pamir Private Power Project, providing clean and reliable electricity to the remote and mountainous GBAO region. He will also represent SECO Economic Cooperation and Development at the third Meeting of the Joint Swiss-Tajik Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.

SECO supports projects in the sphere of macro-economic development, basic public infrastructure services and the promotion of private sector and trade in Tajikistan. For the last decade, SECO has invested more than USD 100 million to development projects in Tajikistan.  .

Switzerland has started its cooperation with Tajikistan in 1993 with humanitarian aid, which in 1998 has been replaced by financial and technical assistance. Overall, Switzerland has contributed more than USD 500 million to different development projects.
