Novi Pazar priority region for the Swiss support

High officials of Switzerland visited Novi Pazar this week. This was an opportunity to talk to local partners, review achieved results and talk about future Swiss support. Nine ongoing projects are testifying the Swiss commitment to the development of Southwest Serbia.

Swiss delegation, led by Swiss Ambassador to Serbia, Philippe Guex and Vice-Director of the Swiss Agency for development and cooperation (SDC) and Head of Department of Cooperation with Eastern Europe, Ruth Huber, visited Novi Pazar region this week. The delegation also included Georgette Bruchez, Head of the Western Balkan Division, Ursula Läubli, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office (SCO) in Serbia, as well as Sascha Müller, Head of the Governance Sector within the SCO. 

Speaking about the Swiss cooperation in the area, Ruth Huber stated: “In this region, we implement nine projects covering the areas of economic development, governance, migration and reduction of high unemployment. We pay special attention to social inclusion and that is why activities within the project From Education to Employment (E2E) are important to us because they target employability and inclusion of people with disabilities.” 

Mr. Nihat Bisevac, the Mayor of Novi Pazar, was the host of this visit. During the official meeting, he emphasized the positive impact of the Swiss support on improving the quality of life of the citizens in Novi Pazar. 

The Swiss delegation visited several local partners including Novi Pazar Youth Office, Association of psychologists, as well as the furniture factory Numanović that participated in the E2E program and trained 12 young people for becoming carpenters. The delgation also visited the civil society organization (CSO) "Merhamet Sandžak” that is supported though the project Swiss PRO. The CSO will conduct trainings at the workplace for vulnerable social groups in order to increase their employability.
