The Embassy of Switzerland in The Hague is looking for a Policy Advisor to support both the Bilateral Affairs as well as the Multilateral Affairs Divisions. We are looking for a motivated and engaged personality with diplomatic skills and a keen interest in foreign affairs and multilateral negotiations.

The position as Policy Advisor offers the opportunity to work in the diverse and multifaceted environment of an Embassy. The Bilateral Affairs Division represents Swiss interests in the Netherlands and promotes cooperation between the two countries in the fields of political and economic affairs, science and innovation, as well as environmental protection and culture. The activities of the Multilateral Affairs Division relate particularly to the representation of Switzerland’s interests in the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the international courts in The Hague (ICC, ICJ, PCA), and to the International Gender Champions (IGC) Network. The Policy Advisor will assist both teams in the preparation and participation of meetings and negotiations, the reporting to the competent authorities in Bern, and in the coordination of the IGC The Hague Hub.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in international law and/or international relations or political science
  • Thorough understanding of Switzerland’s and the Netherlands’ foreign policies, diplomacy, multilateral negotiations, and gender equality topics
  • Working experience in the field of foreign policy and/or international organisations
  • Excellent knowledge of English and French, good understanding of German and Dutch is an asset
  • Good analytical and editorial skills
  • Engaged and motivated personality with diplomatic skills, high flexibility, team spirit, and the ability to work under pressure
  • Experience in project management and event organisation is an asset
  • Residency in the Netherlands
