Major General Ivo Burgener was appointed as the new Head of the Swiss delegation to the Neutral National Supervisory Commission in Korea.
Major General Burgener, 54, was most recently deputy to the Commander of the Armed Forces Training Center and Chief of Staff as well as Head of Engagement and Career Management. Originally from Ried-Brig (in Swiss-German speaking part of the Canton of Valais/Wallis), Burgener notably led the famous mountain race “Patrouille des glaciers”, which is one of the biggest sports events in Switzerland. Around 1,600 soldiers and volunteers are on duty when 4,200 ski mountaineers fight for the fastest time in 1,400 patrols of three.
He succeeds Major General Patrick Gauchat, who was appointed by UN Secretary General António Guterres to head the UN Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East.
