Call for Arts and Culture project proposals

The Swiss Cooperation Office (SCO) in Armenia announces a call for proposals for small projects in the field of contemporary arts. The call intends to issue funding for creative and innovative projects, which contribute to the development of contemporary arts in the Republic of Armenia, in the aftermath of the twofold crisis of the 2020 War and the COVID-19 pandemic.  The proposed projects shall address current socio-cultural and socio-economic issues faced by the Armenian population in the midst of regional instability, as artistic contributions to a public debate on Armenia’s immediate future. The SCO believes that artists after the twofold crisis have a valuable role in speaking up for culture, in championing the place of culture, and in helping people make sense of their experiences through creativity and collective encounters of shared experience. 


Combining economic growth and nature protection in Armenia: Switzerland launches multi-annual project with CHF 4.500.000

On April 4, 2022, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC approved an amount of CHF 4’500’000 for an earlier announced project “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia”. The project will assist Armenia to combine in an innovative manner nature conservation and economic growth to the benefit of those most in need. The project is implemented by the World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Strategic Development Agency NGO as a part of a broader regional program Eco-Corridor Fund for the Caucasus (ECF).

With the adoption of the Agenda 2030 in 2015, Switzerland pledged to "endeavour to reach the furthest behind first". The principle of ‘leave no one behind’ has been since pursued in all Swiss projects the world over. The Swiss Cooperation Office for the South Caucasus has started  a new series of articles dedicated to its efforts to tackle multidimensional poverty in rural areas of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.


SDC project “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia”: completion and bridge into the future

On 16 December, 2021, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC closed its “Livestock Development in the South of Armenia” flagship project, together with its implementing partner organization the Strategic Development Agency SDA NGO. After six years of implementation in the southernmost regions of Armenia, Syunik and Vayots Dzor, the project achieved outstanding results on market, farm and social levels. 


Swiss Embassy at the Best Apprentice Day 2021 organized at the RA President’s Residence

Switzerland is internationally at the forefront of such an approach, which combines technical education in schools with practical experience in companies," said Werner Thut at the "Best Apprentice" award ceremony held at the Residence of the President of the Republic of Armenia. 


New Swiss Cooperation Programme for the South Caucasus Region 2022-2025: doubled budget for Armenia

On December 9, 2021, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia Stefan Kloetzli, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in Armenia and equally Deputy Regional Director of Swiss Cooperation South Caucasus Werner Thut informed the media about the new Swiss Cooperation Programme for the South Caucasus Region 2022-2025. The Programme describes the objectives, which Switzerland’s International Cooperation aims to achieve in the South Caucasus. In Armenia, the budget of the new Programme will be doubled, amounting to tentatively over CHF 20 mio over the course of four years.


Switzerland launches reform project - CHF 7’130’000 for the modernization of Vocational Education System in Agriculture of Armenia

On December 3, 2021, Switzerland launches a long-term development project to assist Armenia in its efforts of modernizing its Vocational Education System in agriculture. The Swiss Development Cooperation approved in principle a support program to Armenia with a total amount of CHF 7’130’000. The project is carried by a unique alliance of international and local development actors, as well as public and private sectors, which will also mobilize additional funds. The reform will be implemented by the Swiss NGO HEKS, the Armenian NGO SDA as well as the German Corporation for International Cooperation GIZ, under the overall coordination of the Government of Armenia.


New one-stop-shop Citizen Office opens its doors to the community of Spitak

Established by the GIZ, in the frames of a Swiss and German funded development project, the Citizen Office in Spitak will provide high quality services to the citizens in accordance with the "one-stop shop" principle, increase the efficiency and transparency of the work of the municipality, facilitate the administrative processes in the municipalities. So far, 51 Citizen Offices have been established in Armenia. 

 


Deputy Head of Mission of the Swiss Embassy to Armenia received by the Chairman of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee

On October 27, 2021, the Chairman of the RA Anti-Corruption Committee Sasun Khachatryan received the Deputy Head of Mission of the Swiss Embassy to Armenia Werner Thut. To-date progress and future work of the program funded by Switzerland for the Anti-Corruption Committee were discussed. Mr. Thut was accompanied by Sergey Hovhannisyan, Senior National Program Officer, and Carl Ulbricht, Project Advisor. 


Switzerland supports lessons learned processes of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia

Following June 2021 parliamentary elections, on September 10, 2021, UNDP, in partnership with Central Electoral Commission of Armenia (CEC), presented the results of a series of lessons learned exercises, aimed at discussing post-election activities and long-term planning. The exercises were organized by the CEC, in partnership with the Electoral Support Project in Armenia – 3 implemented by the UNDP and co-financed by Switzerland, the European Union, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Sweden, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.


Syunik Animal Market: transforming lighthouse development project into a social enterprise

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation transforms one of its development projects in Armenia into a social enterprise. With the completion of the “Livestock Development in Armenia” program, the SDC shifts the ownership of the Syunik Animal Market SAM, giving it a change of function and a business perspective. With an additional contribution amounting to CHF 250’000 of financial support, the SDC renews and confirms the core principles of the SAM.
