In the 2021–2024 education, research and innovation (ERI) funding period, SERI agreed various accompanying measures with several institutions, including the University of Geneva, the EPFL, the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre and the Paul Scherrer Institute. The aim of these measures is to strengthen Switzerland’s scientific and technological cooperation in international research infrastructures. The measures also make it easier for Swiss high-tech companies and research institutions to participate in tenders for international research infrastructures and provide in-kind contributions.
The forum held on 26 November 2024, which was organised by SERI, provided a platform for participating communities and representatives from the science and research policy sectors to discuss the accompanying measures already implemented. Young researchers presented scientific successes enabled by the funding. SERI highlighted the value of international cooperation in science and research, as well as the importance of accompanying measures to position Switzerland as a leading scientific nation in international research infrastructures.
At the forum, SERI also presented its plans for the accompanying measures in the 2025–2028 ERI funding period. In addition, preliminary consideration was given to transitioning these and other existing measures to a standardised system from 2029. The aim is to better reflect the long duration of experiments conducted at research infrastructures.
