Better Aid in Conflict

While international aid addresses humanitarian and development needs, in fragile and conflict affected states it can also do harm by worsening ethnic divisions, fuelling corruption, or aiding military campaigns. This requires a deep understanding of local context to manage these risks. The Better Aid in Conflict Programme (BAC) through the Conflict Resource Facility (CSRF) supports the international aid effort in South Sudan to be ‘conflict sensitive’, minimizing the negative effects (risks) and maximizing the positive effects (opportunities) of all forms of aid, so as to contribute towards peace and stability whenever possible.

The most persistent bottleneck in North Macedonia’s economic development is the low productivity of businesses resulting in their limited capacity to offer decent jobs. Switzerland, through its Modernisation Project (MP) will tackle this by supporting the development of an ecosystem for businesses to modernize. Using business diagnostics to identify productivity bottlenecks will enable businesses to invest strategically in modernisation, leading to increased productivity, improved environmental efficiency and decent jobs.

Projet d’appui à la reconstruction de l’habitat avec formation dans le Sud (PARHAFS)

Le projet vise à renforcer la résilience des habitants du sud d'Haïti, région régulièrement frappée par de violents phénomènes naturels - le dernier en date étant le puissant séisme d'août 21. Le projet travaillera en étroite collaboration avec les institutions nationales, les collectivités locales et les associations de femmes afin de renforcer la résilience des communautés, en premier lieu en construisant des maisons avec la participation des propriétaires. En collaboration avec les populations exposées et la protection civile locale, des abris collectifs anticycloniques seront aussi construits, offrant aux personnes une possibilité de protection en cas de conditions météorologiques adverses. L'objectif est de reproduire ce modèle au niveau national.

Water Management and Livelihoods for Underserved Communities in Jordan

Jordan has attempted to implement water and agricultural management systems and policies in urban areas to face the challenge of limited natural resources. In Zubarieya Village, the community has created an environment where they manage their own ecosystems through a community-based approach. This project will focus on improving and maintaining the water supply system, and support local governance system to ensure proper water management and agriculture systems, protect groundwater and soil, and facilitate sustainable livelihoods.

Contribution to the Emergency fund of the Moldovan authorities

Moldovan national and local authorities and its private citizens are at the forefront of the response to the refugees’ crises, caused by the war in Ukraine. The Government has set up a Crisis Cell under the Prime Minister’s Office to manage the refugee crisis. A specific fund, separate from the general budget, has been created under the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance, to cover expenditures related to accommodating and caring for refugees at national and municipal level.
Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation Management

The project will allow people to use safe and affordable drinking water as well as equitable sanitation and hygiene thereby progressing towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 in Tajikistan. An integrated planning approach supports the building of the local and national capacities and strengthen the policy frameworks to enable sustainable Water Sanitation and Hygiene WASH services to the population of Eastern Khatlon and Gorno-Badakshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO).

Elle leur permet ainsi une meilleure compréhension des enjeux, socle pour bâtir des solutions locales aux problèmes de gouvernance, de violence et de développement.

Gender Mainstreaming 2022-2025 Phase 7

In collaboration with selected strategic partners, the SDC will promote gender equality and women’s rights in 3 priority areas that correspond to the SDC’s strategic interests and where it can promote innovative approaches: Peace building and crisis response, data driven advocacy and policy influence, and mobilising quality investments for gender transformative change. This will contribute to accelerate the implementation of the SDG 5 and to reduce its current funding gap.

Yemen Pledging Conference 2022

In support of the Humanitarian Response in Yemen and in order to secure funding to reduce the suffering of the Yemeni population, Switzerland will co-host a high-level pledging conference on 16th of March together with Sweden and UNOCHA for the fifth time. Entering the 7th year of war have exacerbated these chronic vulnerabilities, leaving more than 20 million people – more than two thirds of the population – in need of humanitarian aid.

UNICEF Contribution to the OCHA Ukraine Flash Appeal 2022

UNICEF estimates that 2.9 million children are in need due to the military attacks on Ukraine. SDC funding to UNICEF allows them to scale up their operations based on their activities from the past 8 years to adapt to the increased humanitarian needs especially of children. Among the rapidly multiplying humanitarian needs the most pressing are emergency medical services, critical medicines, health supplies and equipment, safe water for drinking and hygiene, and shelter and protection for those displaced from their homes.

REVIVRE 2 - Renforcement de l'Environnement de Vie et Impact sur le Vécu et la Résilience des communautés à Mopti (DRC)

La région de Mopti reste l’épicentre de la crise sécuritaire et humanitaire du Mali en raison des exactions des acteurs armés. Les communautés sont exposées à des abus et à de graves violations de leurs droits face auxquels ils sont sans recours. Cette contribution de la Suisse au programme du Conseil Danois pour les Réfugiés renforce les services sociaux maliens pour qu’ils fournissent une assistance aux survivant⋅e⋅s de violence, particulièrement les femmes et les filles.

Ukraine UNHCR - Contribution to the Regional Refugee Response Plan 2022

UNHCR estimates over 4 million people to flee the military attacks on Ukraine and seeking protection and support outside Ukraine across the region. SDC funding to UNHCR allows the rapid scale up of their operations in the region to address refugees‘ needs and respond with life-saving humanitarian assistance. A specific focus will be given to protection and prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) against women and children given the high number of women and children fleeing the conflict.
