Il progetto «Linking Nature, Protection and Sustainable Rural Development» ha promosso, tra le altre cose, l’agricoltura biologica, la produzione di prodotti regionali e il turismo ecologico nelle regioni più povere dell’UE.

In un Paese come il Marocco, dove gli eventi naturali provocano gravi danni, per salvare vite umane è cruciale che i primi soccorsi vengano prestati con la massima celerità. Per gestire meglio queste situazioni, alcune città marocchine mobilitano gli stessi abitanti per potenziare il dispositivo di soccorso. La DSC sostiene questa iniziativa e contribuisce alla formazione dei «soccorritori volontari».

Ecological Organic Agriculture in Africa

Under the leadership of the African Union the Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) Initiative will mainstream EOA into national agricultural policies and production systems. National multi-stakeholder platforms will be instrumental to facilitate and promote this process. SDC’s contribution allows the EOA-Initiative to expand from its actual pilot focus on East Africa to a total of eight countries in East and West Africa. In addition the EOA will be strengthened with scientific evidence from Kenya and Ghana provided by the Swiss-based Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL).

Large numbers of rural people of the central, coastal, eastern and south governorates have lost their farming business and/or livestock due to the ongoing crisis in Syria since the 15th March 2011. The ongoing political unrest has directly affected rural people's livelihoods, as they are not able to attend their business or marketing their products. Many rural people at eastern and north eastern governorates have lost their livelihood bases and/or livestock totally or partially due to the ongoing crisis coupled with the drought situation in past years.

Citzens Actions for Peace & Development (CAPD)

There is a need to contribute to the stabilization of the region through conflict-resolution processes, capacitating public institutions to deliver better services and strengthening civil society organizations (CSOs) to advocate for reforms. The CAPD will work with communities to make them aware of their rights and responsibilities as citizens and enhance their dialogue with authorities to improve State performance. It will also focus on conflict-resolution mechanisms and engage communities and traditional governance structures to work towards non-violent conflict resolution.

Great Lakes Region: Agriculture productivity, income generation and food security

The program will promote a stronger and more productive agricultural sector that can contribute significantly to a reduction of food insecurity in the region. It emphasizes a market driven approach while at the same time paying attention to farmers with more limited access to markets. Four elements will be addressed: creation of local agribusinesses, sustainable intensification of smallholder production, market development and value addition, and innovation for enabling policy and business climate.

Improving the availability and use of diverse seed and planting materials to reduce vulnerability and improve food security for smallholders

The project increases directly the availability and diversity of planting materials to smallholders to reduce vulnerability to external shocks as well as improving policy dialogue at various levels, on equity and redistribution issues regarding seed systems. Smallholders in developing countries will get political recognition for their role in germplasm conservation and get improved access to the necessary diversity of planting material needed for their families’ food security. The existing international policy framework shall be adapted to respond to the reality and the needs of smallholders in vulnerable ecosystems of developing countries.
