Clearing for Results 2011-2015

During the last 20 years Cambodia has made significant progress in clearing the remnants of landmine and unexploded ordinance contamination. Nevertheless 648 km2 of land remain contaminated. SDC will support the UNDP project Clearing for Results II (2011-15), implemented by the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) to release up to 75 km² of mine-free land.

Decent Work for Migrants from South Asia

Labour migration is highly significant for the development of countries of origin in South Asia, but migrants are often not sufficiently protected by legal frameworks and therefore vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. This programme supports governments and the civil society to create and implement policies for improved protection of migrants and to enhance their contribution to the development of their country of origin. Concrete lessons learnt from this programme at the national level will be fed into regional and global dialogues.

Performing and Responsible Social Sciences Research (PERFORM)

Social Sciences in the Western Balkans lack recognition and influence. This project is designed to improve the quality and relevance of social research for political and social reforms in the region. Strengthened research communities, defining their research agenda and delivering quality research, a structured dialogue with public and private stakeholders, improving the relevance and policy incidence of research, and more conducive frame conditions for social research shall result from this project.

Public Services Improvement in Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz Government's development strategy plans equal growth of regions through  decentralization and strengthening of the role of local municipalities in public services delivery. However, at present municipalities lack capacities, skills and resources to carry out their mandates. This project is designed to address this barrier and improve the access and quality of public services delivered to the population.

Strengthen Farmers’ Organisations in Asia and Pacific Region

Farmers’ Organisations in Asia and the Pacific aim to represent the interests of a broad range of rural producers. They voice out their members’ views and expectations in national and regional processes, and deliver varied services to them. SDC will support a bottom-up programme set by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) that aims at strengthening the organisational and operational capacities of these organisations. This programme will be directly implemented by them and their regional networks.

Contribution to Confidence Building Measures Program in Transnistria – Promoting Confidence in the Health Sector

Transnistria is the breakaway region situated in the eastern part of Moldova, between Nistru River and the border with Ukraine. A Confidence Building Measures Program (CBM) launched in 2009 by the EU and UNDP aims at facilitating the settlement of this unresolved issue. Swiss support to the health component of the CBM allows improving the access to quality, evidence-based and cost-efficient perinatal care and immunization, extending the reforms in the mother and child health sector in Moldova to Transnistria.

GLO: Linking Science, Policy, Action SPA

The last couple of years have seen a multitude of mitigation oriented initiatives, some of them complementary to the stalling United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations. This programme proposes to link the project experience of the SDC to international efforts aimed at realising mitigation complementary to the UNFCCC. The objective is to contribute to climate change mitigation and to poverty reduction.

Regionalization of the Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Services in Moldova

Despite improvement over the last years, the infant mortality rate in Moldova is still more than double compared to the European Union average. With this project Switzerland is pursuing the support to the Republic of Moldova aiming at increasing the efficiency of the pediatric emergency healthcare in Moldova. At the end of the project, all children aged 0-18 in Moldova will have access to high quality pediatric emergency services. In addition, awareness on how to prevent accidents and on the correct procedures in case of an emergency will be raised at the community level.

Costruire un futuro migliore con mattoni più puliti

Nella Repubblica del Sudafrica la produzione di laterizi in argilla pro-duce emissioni su vasta scala di gas a effetto serra dovute all'utilizzo di impianti di cottura oramai superati e inefficienti dal punto di vista energetico. Per risolvere questo problema la DSC sta sostenendo il trasferimento sud-sud della tecnologia del Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln, che riduce considerevolmente il consumo di carbone dimezzando le emissioni di CO2. Il primo impianto sperimentale è stato inaugurato nel settembre 2011 a Jeffrey’s Bay, nella provincia del Capo Orientale.

Water Supply and Sanitation in Tajikistan

The project seeks to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation in rural areas by enhancing the sustainability of the water and sanitation sector. The project will focus on: increasing access to water and sanitation Systems for 15.000 women, men and chiidren in rural areas; contribute to the institutional and policy reform; and include and enhance the focus on sanitation issues, waste water disposai, toilets in rural schools, clinics and other public facilities, norms for sanitation and water quality. The project will also create synergies with the community health program in Tajikistan.
