SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

Additional Allocation 2017 to ICRC Operation in Somalia in Response to the Hunger Emergency

On 24 February 2017, SDC/HA pledged an additional allocation of CHF 15 million to support emergency relief operations to help populations facing starvation in parts of Africa (South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria/the Lake Chad Region) and Yemen. This decision followed a call issued by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on 22 February 2017 urging for USD 4.4 billion aid to avert famine for 20 million people who risk starvation in these countries. CHF 1 million will be allocated to support ICRC’s emergency operation in Somalia.

SWISSAID aims at empowering poor rural populations to improve their livelihoods by ecological farming, income generation, enhanced access to natural resources and the ability to influence policies (and their implementation) having a bearing on their lives. In countries where revenues from extraction of mineral resources are available, the programme aims at empowering civil society organisations to ensure transparency in revenue flows and their application for poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Fighting diseases of poverty:Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi)

Neglected tropical diseases mainly affect poor and marginalised populations in low and middle-income countries who have no purchasing power. This is the main reason why there is no incentive for the private sector to develop appropriate treatments for these diseases. DNDi develops and provides worldwide access to new and improved treatments as well as contributes to strengthening research capacities in endemic countries and advocates research on these diseases.

North Macedonia: Nature Conservation Programme

01.01.2017 - 30.06.2021

Switzerland will assist North Macedonia in sustainable management of natural resources through practical application of conservation measures such as regional protected areas and integrated forest management in the Bregalnica region. Further framework conditions will be improved and support is provided in implementing national legislation and the Strategy on Nature. By promoting ecologically and sustainably produced products and services, economic benefit for the local population will be generated.

Con il progetto «Enhancing Youth Employment» s’intende migliorare le opportunità sul mercato del lavoro per i giovani in Kosovo, una fascia della popolazione fortemente colpita dalla disoccupazione. Creando un dialogo tra i datori di lavoro e le persone in cerca di un impiego e offrendo a queste ultime una formazione valida affinché acquisiscano le qualifiche necessarie per poter essere competitivi, è possibile ridurre la disoccupazione e dare slancio alla crescita del Paese.

Soutien de la DDC à trigon-film

Die DEZA unterstützt die Weiterentwicklung eines unabhängigen Filmsektors in Asien, Afrika, Lateinamerika und Osteuropa. Dadurch werden Stimmen von Künstler/-innen in zivilgesellschaftlich relevanten Prozessen gestärkt. Die Stiftung trigon-film ist ein Filmverleiher und bringt Filme aus diesen Regionen in die Schweizer Kinos. Sie berät und unterstützt die Filmemacher/-innen damit sie sich im internationalen Filmmarkt bekannt machen können.
