Towards Transparent, Inclusive and Accountable Governance in the Republic of Macedonia

The project aims at increasing gender equality in Macedonia and the quality of life for women and vulnerable groups by 1) systematically integrating a gender perspective in public policies and budgets which leads to the allocation of more funds for greater gender equality in strategies and policies; 2) empowering women and vulnerable groups to advocate for their needs in municipal planning and budgeting; and 3) supporting CSOs and Members of Parliament in overseeing the implementation of gender responsive policies and initiatives.

Fortalecimiento de la Gobernanza y de los Derechos Humanos con enfoque en el Triángulo Norte de Centro América

El programa facilita que autoridades de gobiernos, sistemas de justicia, sociedad civil, empresa privada, prioricen acciones de vigilancia, promoción y protección de defensores de derechos humanos y de pueblos indígenas y afrodescendientes en el marco del Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos, e inicien un proceso de dialogo regional alrededor de la gestión de los recursos naturales.  

Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies (SDG 16+)

The “Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies” is a group of countries, international organizations, and other stakeholders. The Pathfinders promote more peaceful, just and inclusive societies, as stipulated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is intended that the initiative will turn into a movement to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 16, which will be reviewed at the High-Level Political Forum 2019. Switzerland – as an advocate of SDG 16 – is a co-convener, a founding member and a donor to the initiative.

Renforcement de l’élevage pastoral au Tchad (PREPAS)

L’élevage pastoral est une activité économique capitale dans la zone sahélo-saharienne dont les indices de pauvreté sont très élevés au Tchad. Ce mode de vie est cependant fragilisé par les aléas climatiques provoquant crises pastorales et transhumances précoces, sources de nombreux conflits. Afin de renforcer la résilience des éleveurs, la DDC finance un projet qui valorise les ressources pastorales, en favorisant leur accès à l’eau, créant des couloirs de transhumance et améliorant l’offre de services en santé.

Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG) Phase 2

Land governance remains at the centre of development challenges in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV), and land expropriation is a key driver of new poverty and food insecurity. The governments in the region have begun to turn their attention to legal and policy issues on land governance. This creates an opportunity for MRLG and the Reform Actors it brings together, to contribute to improvements in policies and practices regarding land tenure security for family farmers.

Promotion de la qualité de l’éducation de base au Tchad (ProQEB)

Au Tchad, l’éducation de base formelle et autres alternatives éducatives sont peu accessibles, de faible qualité et inadaptées aux besoins des populations. La DDC contribue à l’amélioration du système éducatif en renforçant la formation des enseignants, en développant les conditions d’enseignement-apprentissage et en favorisant l’inclusion des groupes marginalisés dans deux régions et sur le plan national. L’éducation permet d’ouvrir de meilleures perspectives pour les jeunes tchadiens qui souhaitent rester dans leur pays.  

More coffee with less water – towards a reduction of the blue water footprint in coffee production

Intensified coffee production in Vietnam, the world’s second largest coffee producer, has resulted in seasonal water scarcity due to over-irrigation and water mismanagement. In this project Nestlé and SDC partner up to support achieving sufficient water availability for all water users in Vietnam. The project showcases that saving water is both, sustainable and profitable, for small scale coffee farmers. An aspect featured in global outreach and policy dialogues as well as in Switzerland as the world’s trading hub for coffee.

Integrated Water Resources Management in the Barind areas

By promoting the coordinated, equitable and sustainable development and management of water, land and related resources, and addressing the institutional challenges associated with integrated water resources management, the project intends to ensure access to sufficient and safe water for the disadvantaged people of the Barind tracts in North-Western Bangladesh.   

Reducing Food Losses through Improved Post Harvest Management in Ethiopia

Ethiopia continues to experience high post-harvest losses around 30% annually due to inappropriate use of technologies and mal-practices. Building up on the success stories and knowledge gained from SDC’s long-term engagement in post-harvest management and lessons learnt from the first phase, the second phase aims at promoting affordable and effective on-farm storage technologies and management practices to reduce post-harvest losses for smallholder farmers in Ethiopia.

Programme de Développement des Infrastructures Économiques et Marchandes au Bénin (PDIEM)

La phase 1 du PDIEM a rénové 6 infrastructures économiques et marchandes d’importance nationale/régionale, pour dynamiser l’économie locale. Le gouvernement a demandé de répliquer ce projet à d’autres endroits. En cofinancement avec les communes et l’Etat, la phase 2 rénove 4 autres infrastructures, intégrant la gestion des déchets. Les revenus contribueront à entretenir les marchés, les taxes générées seront réinvesties pour des services publics améliorant les conditions de vie.

Backstopping SDC Climate Change and Environment (CC&E) Network

A climate smart development cooperation requires continuous knowledge management and a sound thematic expertise. The next phase of the Backstopping Support Mandate (BSM) will help to capitalize on SDC’s key learnings, stimulate capacity building, foster mainstreaming and provide thematic support in the field of climate change and environment This will allow the SDC Climate Change and Environment Network and the Global Programme Climate Change (GPCCE) help improve the overall quality of SDC’s operational activities in this thematic field.
