CULTURESCAPES 2021-2023

The biennial multidisciplinary festival CULTURESCAPES enables artists from the Amazon and the Sahara to perform, contribute to international debates and find new partners and networks. The festival takes place in several cantons and language regions of Switzerland and is realized in cooperation with various cultural institutions. Both editions focus on global issues (climate change, water resources, migration) that are relevant to the region in focus and to which SDC can contribute with expertise and own events.

Community-Based Chronic disease Care Lesotho (ComBaCaL)

Non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) are the number one cause of death globally. There is a lack of scientifically validated prevention and care models in low- and middle-income countries. This research project, combining research excellency from Switzerland and Lesotho, will develop, test, validate, improve and up-scale an innovative eHealth NCD prevention and care model in health facilities and communities in Lesotho and beyond.

Strengthening the climate resilience portfolio of the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery

Climate change is an amplifier of natural hazards and a threat to human lives, sustainable development and poverty reduction. The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) of the World Bank aims to substantially increase investments in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. Building on Switzerland’s role as champion and custodian of climate resilience within GFDRR, it will support climate mainstreaming in all GFDRR activities.
Facilitating Safe and Skilled Migration on the Central Asia - Kazakhstan Corridor

Labor migration within Central Asia and targeted countries of destination, in particular to Kazakhstan constitutes a lifeline for millions of families in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. However informality and poor regulation negatively affect potential development benefits. The program aims at enhancing labor mobility governance along the Central Asia-Kazakhstan migration corridor while supporting the governments of the region to facilitate reintegration and encourage the diversification of countries of destination. By strengthening pre-departure orientation and skills-matching interventions for prospective migrant workers, it will foster migrant workers’ protection and enhance livelihood perspectives for the poorest in Central Asia. The program builds on Swiss migration expertise and increases the potential of migration for development.

Strengthening Systems to Combat Corruption and Impunity in Central America

The program contributes to the reduction of corruption and impunity in the Northern Triangle of Central America, strengthens the anticorruption investigative and criminal prosecution capacities of the specialized units of the Public Prosecutors and reinforces the political lobbying of civil society organizations to promote institutional reforms.

Woody Weeds Plus

Based on the research results of CABI Switzerland and the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Berne, the Kenyan government implements the national Prosopis strategy aiming at sustainable management of this fast spreading invasive species. The Woody Weeds Plus project coaches this effort and implements a multi-stakeholder approach to address pastoralist livelihoods and to restore pastures and ecosystem services in arid and semi-arid lands.

Au Centre du Mali, les groupes armés exploitent la concurrence pour l’accès aux terres afin d’envenimer les relations entre communautés et de créer un climat d’extrême violence. En visant une meilleure productivité des terres et le renforcement des mécanismes de gestion des différends fonciers, le projet contribue à apaiser les relations et accroît la résilience. La Suisse contribue à la cohésion sociale, au développement rural et à la résilience des victimes du conflit.
Impact Linked Financing for high-impact organisations suf-fering from the COVID-19 crisis

The Impact-Linked Finance Fund (ILFF) addresses major challenges, which private-sector organisations creating strong positive impact for vulnerable communities are facing due to COVID-19. These high-impact organisations (HIOs) will benefit greatly from an innovative financing approach that rewards them directly for verified outcomes. The project will focus on HIOs in Eastern and Southern Africa suffering from the COVID-19 crisis and providing important sustainable services at affordable prices to the poor.
Civil Society Support in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Citizens will increase their influence on policy making through their active engagement with civil society organisations. Through improvement of their know-how on civic participation and engagement in civil society alliances, civil society organisations will effectively participate in democratic processes, demand reforms from the authorities, and contribute to social change in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They will increasingly act as advocates for democratic reforms, gender equality, human rights and social inclusion rather than as service providers.
TTDP - Trail Based Tourism Development Project

The project aims at increasing income of Nepalese people through the promotion of trail based tourism. By attracting national and regional visitors along safe and scenic trails, it will contribute to preserve social and cultural heritage while generating local revenues. Switzerland’s convening power to bring together federal, provincial and local governments will be catalytic in promoting intergovernmental cooperation in view of strengthening local economic development.

OHCHR - Strategic Partnership with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights

Promoting respect for human rights is a foreign policy goal and pillar of Swiss international cooperation, as the denial of human rights is one of the main factors of poverty. With a multi-year contribution to the Geneva-based Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, focussing on selected geographic and thematic priorities, SDC will support this organisation to better play its key role in integrating human rights in sustainable development.
Aceli Africa

Aceli Africa is a market-led platform to catalyse finance for credit-constrained East African businesses along selected agricultural value chains that offer the best potential for income and job creation, food security and nutrition, gender inclusiveness, and promotion of climate-smart and agro-ecological smallholder agriculture. Key Swiss added values are the up-scaling of social impact financial instruments pioneered by SDC with partners, the involvement of the largest Swiss private impact investor, and the focus on two SDC priority countries.
