Support to Parliamentary Centre of Asia

01.04.2021 - 31.12.2025

The Parliamentary Centre of Asia (PCAsia) builds the capacities of Parliaments in ASEAN countries in particular Cambodia and Laos plus Myanmar if the situation allows (CLM) to promote democratic accountability in the region. Complemented by the technical assistance of the Swiss Parliamentary Services (SPS), the Swiss contribution to PCAsia will support the capacity building of professional, non-partisan, ethical and accountable parliamentary services.

Cryospheric Observation and Modelling for improved Adaptation in Central Asia (CROMO-ADAPT)

Climate change in Central Asia mountain regions will have significant impacts on water availability and occurrence of natural hazards. This project strengthens the glacier, snow and permafrost monitoring systems and capacities in Central Asia, develops user-oriented climate information services, and supports the planning of adaptation measures to increase resilience to climate change. The project builds on Swiss expertise in monitoring and adaptation in alpine water and disaster risk management.

Municipal Environmental Governance (MEG)

01.04.2021 - 28.02.2026

Close to one quarter of the municipalities in the country will adopt a new performance management system, in line with the reforms of the public administration. Elected officials and municipal administrations will perform their duties and interact with citizens in a more responsive and transparent way. Citizens will benefit from better services, in particular in the water sector, in line with the European Union standards, and by developing synergies with the World Bank Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Modernization Programme. The regulatory framework at all levels will be improved to support these reforms.

Intelligence and Security Sector Reform

At the core of this project is to improve the accountability of the state and enhance the division of the executive, legislative and judiciary powers in line with the democratic governance priorities of the Swiss Cooperation Programme in North Macedonia. It focuses on supporting the intelligence and security sector actors to become more transparent and accountable towards parliament, the judiciary and citizens at large, through new and improved existing legal framework, enhanced policy-making and capacity building.

Contribution to the Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR), 2021-2025

01.04.2021 - 31.03.2026

GNDR is the largest international network of civil society organisations working to strengthen resilience and reduce disaster risk in communities worldwide. SDC's contribution supports GNDR to implement its 2020-2025 Strategy, by which GNDR will further empower communities most at risk and local civil society groups to inform policies and practices with the realities from the ground.

Le secteur minier artisanal occupe plus de 800’000 personnes au Burkina Faso. L’exploitation est largement informelle, peu encadrée par l’Etat et génère de graves problèmes environnementaux, sociaux et économiques. La Suisse promeut une exploitation responsable de l’or en renforçant le système national d’encadrement du secteur et en accompagnant les acteurs locaux de six sites pour améliorer les services et conditions de travail et réduire les effets négatifs.

ESLR - Enhancing Systematic Land Registration

The absence of land use regulations enforcement and poor-quality land administration services have limited land tenure security of the Lao population, and have contributed to social tensions and poverty. Switzerland, with its long standing engagement in the land governance sector, will support the Lao People’s Democratic Republic’s effort to accelerate systematic land registration, hence strengthening land tenure security of the Lao population, including the vulnerable groups, women and ethnic minorities.

Futuro Microbank

Limited access to financial services is a key constraint of rural micro and small women and men entrepreneurs (including farmers) to develop their business and to generate employment and income. The Swiss supported Banco Futuro is successfully providing affordable financial services to rural entrepreneurs (80% women), thus allowing them to enhance business and livelihood opportunities

Malgré des avancées substantielles, les réformes en cours liées à la décentralisation au Niger sont ralenties dans leur mise en œuvre effective par un manque de ressources humaines et financières. La Suisse entend soutenir l’Etat pour améliorer les conditions cadres propices à la gouvernance locale et pour renforcer les collectivités territoriales en vue d’assurer la délivrance de services publics de qualité aux populations et ainsi contribuer à la stabilité du Niger.

Sustainable Economic Development: ph. 02

In the southern provinces of Kyrgyzstan, many households are still excluded from economic activities and depend on remittances. The current Covid-19 pandemic further weakens these families. The project will improve the quality of agricultural products and develop new market opportunities to increase the resilience of target groups. Best practices from phase 1 will be scaled up to other regions.

Mit dem Ziel, Stimmen von Künstler*innen in zivilgesellschaftlich relevanten Prozessen zu stärken, unterstützt die DEZA die Weiterentwicklung eines unabhängigen Filmsektors in Asien, Afrika, Lateinamerika und Osteuropa. Die Stiftung trigon-film ist ein Filmverleiher und bringt Filme aus diesen Regionen in die Schweizer Kinos. Sie berät und unterstützt die Filmemacher*innen, damit sie sich im internationalen Filmmarkt bekannt machen können.

AgriPath: Empowering farmers’ transition to sustainable agriculture through effective and efficient digital pathways

500 million smallholder farmers need to increase their agriculture productivity, income and climate resilience. There is a lack of scientifically validated evidence on the effectiveness and cost efficiency of digital agriculture services. AgriPath aims to bring sustainable agriculture^{^[1]} to scale by identifying, evaluating, and promoting promising pathways for digitally supported agricultural advisory services.

[1] The Consortium will embrace current concepts of climate resilient agriculture, climate smart agriculture, sustainable land management and agro-ecology.
