PROMISE - Poverty Reduction Through Safe Migration, Skills Development and Enhanced Job Placement in Cambodia, Laos PDR, Myanmar and Thailand

Labour migration is a key poverty reduction and economic development strategy for jobless people in the Mekong region. The last phase of this regional programme will focus on the sustainability and upscaling of support to migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar to access skills development and decent employment in Thailand and when returning home. Switzerland addresses their needs with a regional approach together with the International Organisation for Migration, governments and the private sector by strengthening regional and national policies and systems.


Medical Education Reform

01.09.2021 - 31.12.2026

The project is improving the quality of health services through well-trained health professionals. The exit phase will strengthen professional associations, modernize nursing education and establish an independent competency assessment centre. The Ministry of Health and Social Development delegated the competency development and assessment role to the Professional Associations, which are the key partners to implement the project’s interventions.

SRBM - Strengthening Representative Bodies in Mongolia

Workshop on Parliament Monitoring

On request of the authorities, the project ensures the implementation and oversight over new local governance laws to ensure public service delivery and sustainable rangeland management. Based on SDC supported achievements on democratic governance in Mongolia, increased technical cooperation between the Swiss and the Mongolian Parliamentary Services is at the core of the project. Gender equality and pro-poor approaches are mainstreamed.


ILFF 4 Education - Impact Linked Financing for Education to accelerate inclusive quality education through private sector engagement

Many countries face challenges and a considerable funding gap to meet the SDG 4. Covid-19 has aggravated this situation. Impact linked finance is an innovative way to leverage private-sector engagement in the education sector for the inclusion and quality learning of vulnerable groups. In collaboration with foundations, the project will pilot impact linked financing in education in SDC priority regions in order to accelerate learning, inclusiveness and quality of basic education.

Climate and Clean Air in Latin American Cities Plus Programme Phase 2 (CALAC+ 2)

Phase 2 of the Climate and Clean Air in Latin American Cities Plus Programme (CALAC+) will support the consolidation and implementation of local and national measures to reduce emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases (GHG) from urban transport and non-road mobile machinery to protect the climate and human health. CALAC+ will foster normative and technological changes through regional cooperation, building on Swiss expertise, and share the programme’s experience at the global level.

Women’s Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus

In 2017, Switzerland embarked on a multi-donor project which laid a solid foundation for women’s economic empowerment in the South Caucasus, yet, further support is needed to fulfil women’s rights, which remain constrained by structural and cultural barriers. The Swiss-funded contribution will support capacity-building and provide technical assistance at institutions and policy level and, combined with activities at grassroots level, benefit at least 1’850 vulnerable women in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia

Leave No One Behind Project

Albania is building up its social protection system, with the vision of providing decentralized services. The importance of an effective social protection system has increased by the ongoing pandemic. The project covers part of the social protection system. Its 2nd phase scales up the reform roll-out. This Albania-Switzerland-UN’ effort collaborates with 50% of municipalities and strengthens their capacities to support 160’000 vulnerable people.

Voluntary Contribution to the Adaptation Fund (AF)

The Adaptation Fund (AF) has a proven track record for implementing innovative adaptation projects for those people most in need. AF projects increase overall resilience of vulnerable poor globally and in SDC partner countries and decrease the potential risk, that impacts of climate change could diminish achieved development outcomes across sectors. With this voluntary contribution and due to its recognized climate adaptation expertise, Switzerland ensures its representation in the governing body of the AF and increases its convening power.

Community Health Provision in Somalia

The programme provides maternal and child health services in Somalia. It works with community and district health boards to strengthen health governance at the local levels, while at the same time builds the capacities of health authorities and health workers. It also promotes innovation by incorporating research findings that inform evidence based implementation. All these elements are linked to the Swiss interest of ensuring long term sustainability in the intervention areas through strengthened service delivery at lower governance levels.


PAEFE - Programme d’Appui à l’Education et à la Formation des Enfants exclus du système éducatif

Au Bénin, près de 35% des enfants âgés de 5 à 17 ans ne sont jamais allés à l’école ou en sont trop tôt sortis. Le système éducatif est élitiste et pyramidal, excluant ainsi un nombre élevé d’enfants. La Suisse à travers le PAEFE (phases 1 et 2), a développé avec succès un modèle pédagogique bilingue qui permet aux enfants d’être rescolarisés ou d’accéder à la formation professionnelle. La phase 3 vise le passage à l’échelle du modèle en responsabilisant l’Etat et les communes.

Territorial Inclusive Economic Development in the Mosquitia region, department of Gracias a Dios

The Honduran Mosquitia is one of the poorest and most conflict-ridden region in the country. With the program, Switzerland promotes income for the indigenous population, improves food security and thus contributes to reducing migration and improving regional stability. In cooperation with the private sector the program generates 1000 net new jobs, seeks to increment the income of 1700 families by 5% per year (USD 360/year in 2020), and promotes an increase in public investment in the territory by at least 10% per year. 


Swiss Support to the Serbian dual VET System, Phase 1

01.08.2021 - 30.06.2027

The Government of Serbia has introduced dual vocational education and training (VET) at secondary level in 2018, resulting in 8’000 youths currently enrolled in formal dual apprenticeships. Switzerland will expand the advisory support and technical assistance provided since 2018 to the Serbian Ministry of Education to strengthen its dual VET system, and jointly with Austria, support the Serbian private sector in delivering labor-market oriented apprenticeships in line with the law on dual education.
