Inclusive Urbanisation

The program contributes to inclusive urbanization in Central America in partnership with UN-Habitat with the aim to improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations in urban settlements. Solid data and evidence on informal settlements and specialised advisory will contribute to improve urban policies. Capacity building, participatory planning approaches and increased involvement of the private sector will foster comprehensive and feasible solutions for informal settlements.

More than a year and a half after the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus is still dominating the health, social and economic life worldwide. In the frame of its Covid-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan (SPRP), WHO and partners are strengthening health systems of middle- and lower-income countries in their capacities to enable the rapid uptake and delivery of Covid-19 tools (vaccines, therapies and diagnostics) and to become more resilient to provide essential services at country level.

The Resident Coordinator System is an indispensable aspect of the UN Development System (UNDS) Reform. Mandated to lead and coordinate the UN engagement at global, regional and country level, the RC System relies on predictable and sustainable funding. A contribution to the RC Trust Fund supports the roll out of the UNDS Reform, reconfirms Switzerland’s position as a UNDS reform champion and provides leverage for Switzerland’s multilateral reform dialogue.
RAPID+ The Kenya Arid Lands Partnership for Integrated Development Plus

Pastoralist communities in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) have for a very long time adapted to the harsh environments to derive livelihoods (mainly livestock). Communities in the ASALs are facing multiple pressures of climate change, degraded natural resources and conflicts. This program supports the historically marginalised and under-developed pastoralist communities in Northern Kenya to access safe, reliable and affordable Water and manage their rangeland ecosystem sustainably.

Les progrès réalisés dans le secteur de l’eau et de l’assainissement sont freinés par la forte croissance démographique. Le sous-financement du secteur ne permet pas d’améliorer significativement l’accès à l’eau et à l’assainissement. En contribuant au Fonds national pour l’eau, la Suisse appuie le gouvernement dans ses efforts; par son dialogue politique elle soutient la décentralisation du secteur, où elle a une forte valeur ajoutée.
Switzerland aims to improve health and psychosocial outcomes for adolescents and young people infected with HIV through support to the Zvandiri peer-to-peer programme. Peer interventions positively influence HIV testing rates, treatment uptake, retention in care and viral suppression. This programme is integrated within and seeks to strengthen the public health system. SDC will partner with Africaid, the primary government partner for this approach, and support Africaid’s ambitions to expand the model to Zambia.

The Somali population is facing considerable development and state building challenges, with Government institutions still very weak and fragile, particularly at the local level. With the UN Joint Programme for Local Governance and Decentralised Service Delivery (JPLG) as well as local peacebuilding initiatives, SDC contributes to enhanced state legitimacy, more equitable access to public service and well-being for all citizens, leading to more stability in the Horn of Africa.
BIOREST - Appui au développement d’une agriculture biologique durable et résiliente dans un contexte de changement climatique en Tunisie

A travers cette l’intervention, la Suisse consolide les efforts du gouvernement tunisien pour la résilience au changement climatique en accompagnant le développement des systèmes d’agriculture biologiques appliquant les principes de l’agriculture intelligente face au climat. L’appui portera sur les axes de la production végétale et animale, l’encadrement des acteurs et le système de contrôle de l’agriculture biologique. L’approche territoriale adoptée consolide la résilience alimentaire et environnementale des régions ciblées et de la Tunisie.
African Risk Capacity Programmes in Zambia and Zimbabwe

This programme will contribute towards strengthening national systems for disaster preparedness through support to drought insurance premiums and capacity building. Switzerland is thus consolidating its engagement in climate change mitigation and disasters risk reduction with the aim to sustainably minimize risk to loss of lives and assets for vulnerable men and women. The Africa Risk Capacity, a specialized agency of the Africa Union, will implement this programme.

Mise en œuvre par l’Organisation Internationale du Travail (OIT), l’intervention contribue à l’amélioration la qualité de vie des populations de 14 communes des régions défavorisées à travers un accompagnement au processus de décentralisation dans son axe transfert des compétences du pouvoir central vers le pouvoir local. Les communes seront appuyées dans leurs rôles d’acteur développement et de fournisseur de services de base dans les secteurs de la santé et de l’éducation.

Enabling development through landmine clearance in the Sengwe Wildlife Corridor

Switzerland will contribute to achieve Zimbabwe’s 2025 landmine-free deadline by supporting a demining operation in the Sengwe Wildlife Corridor. The project implemented by APOPO seeks to return 84% of the remaining suspected contaminated area to local communities which will be used for agricultural development, ecotourism, and conservation, as well as to provide mine risk education so that food security is enhanced, general wellbeing is improved, and accidents are avoided.
