#WeAreSwitzerland Tour of the UK – Glasgow

#WeAreSwitzerland is an initiative by the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK to highlight and build on the existing partnerships between Switzerland and the UK beyond the London bubble, as well as forging new ones across the fields of innovation, science, economy, politics and culture.


Wales Week 2023

For Wales Week 2023, we had the pleasure of being joined by the Secretary of State for Wales David TC Davies, for an event to highlight the mutual interest between Switzerland and Wales in learning from and investing in each other. And, though it may not seem so at first, our languages create some commonalities as well and we welcomed some outstanding speakers to raise awareness of the efforts by Switzerland and Wales to preserve and promote minority languages.


Delicious Graubünden specialities kick off third edition of Romansh Language Week

Today sees the start of the third international Romansh Language Week ('Emna rumantscha'), an initiative promoted by the FDFA in cooperation with the canton of Graubünden and the Lia Rumantscha. This year's scheduled events include a cookery workshop in Bern involving federal councillor and head of the FDFA, Ignazio Cassis, president of the National Council, Martin Candinas, and other distinguished guests; a themed evening in London; and language courses in New York. The aim is to raise awareness abroad of multilingual Switzerland.


Switzerland – UK: Federal Council approves negotiating mandate

At its meeting on 15 February, the Federal Council approved the mandate to launch negotiations on enhancing the bilateral trade agreement between Switzerland and the United Kingdom (UK). The decision is subject to consultation with the relevant parliamentary committees and the Conference of Cantonal Governments.


Switzerland took up its work on the UN Security Council

On 1 January, Switzerland became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the years 2023 and 2024. Its seat on the Security Council is an opportunity for Switzerland to make its contribution to peace and security in the world, especially in the current tense global political context.



Agreement with the United Kingdom on mutual recognition of conformity assessments

On 17 November, Switzerland and the United Kingdom signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of conformity assessments. This means that in certain sectors, product testing by a UK conformity assessment body is no longer required for exports from Switzerland to the UK. The agreement will be provisionally applied from 1 January 2023 and will enter into force no later than 28 February 2023. It was approved by the Federal Council on 16 November.


Switzerland and the UK strengthen their cooperation in research and innovation

On 10 November, Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and UK Minister of State at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, George Freeman, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in London on cooperation in research and innovation. The agreement is intended to further strengthen the two countries' partnership in these areas.



Cyber Symposium 2022
