Hintergrund |
In the context of the war against Ukraine, the railway infrastructure is crucial for supplying Ukraine with essential goods, materials, and grain exports, and has proven vital for evacuation of people. To assist this need, SECO supports in financing the repair of 270km of the rail network in Ukraine. This will enable the rail infrastructure in Ukraine to be rehabilitated and improved. The material will be provided by a Swiss company. |
Ziele |
The humanitarian situation of the population affected by the war has become precarious due to targeted attacks on railway infrastructure and systems of basic services. At present, the railway infrastructure is one of the most important and reliable ways of supplying Ukraine with urgently needed goods, materials and products, and guaranteeing the export of grain. The goal of the intervention is to finance rail fastening systems for the Ukrainian railway system. This allows the supply of most urgent goods and the export of grain – vital for the functioning uf the Ukrainian economy. |
Mittelfristige Wirkungen |
The repair aims to restore damaged railway infrastructure in Ukraine, ensuring the continued operation of the rail network. By focusing on key transport corridors, it will enable the delivery of goods, materials, and grain exports. Additionally, the involvement of a Swiss company ensures that Swiss expertise and quality are applied to the rail fastening systems. |
Resultate |
