The Embassy is pleased to present, in partnership with the German Film Festival 2018, “The Little Witch” based on the famous novel “Die kleine Hexe” by Otfied Preussler at Golden Village, Plaza Singapura Sundays, 28th of October and 4th of November . A co-production between Switzerland and Germany and directed by Swiss born Michael Schaerer, this children’s movie was just release in January 2018.
“The Little Witch” received Best Cinematography award at the Bavarian Film Awards 2018. The little witch (Karoline Herfurth) has a big problem: She is only 127 years old and therefore much too young to dance with the other witches on Walpurgis Night. That’s why she secretly sneaks up on this most important of all witch festivals. As punishment, she must memorise all the spells from the great magic book within a year and show everyone that she is a good witch. But diligence and ambition are not really her strengths and, on top of that, the evil witch Rumpumpel (Suzanne von Borsody) is in her way.

Statement on the death penalty case of Mr Billy Agbozo and Mr Hishamrudin bin Mohd
Switzerland is saddened by the news of the execution of Ghanaian national Mr. Billy Agbozo by the Singapore authorities on 9 March 2018 and recalls its opposition to the use of capital punishment.
Switzerland, further calls on Singapore authorities to halt the execution of Singaporean national, Mr. Hishamrudin bin Mohd, scheduled to be executed on Friday 16 March 2018 and to commute his sentence. We have repeatedly called on Singaporean authorities to adopt a moratorium on all executions - as have the EU with its member states and Norway (EU Statement).
Switzerland holds a strong and principled position against the death penalty and is opposed to the use of capital punishment under any circumstances. The death penalty is cruel and inhuman, and has not proven to be a deterrent to crime. Switzerland is therefore committed to continue working towards the abolition of the death penalty worldwide. The global trend is towards abolition and Switzerland encourages Singapore to join the growing community of nations which have abolished the death penalty.
