Dear reader, dear compatriot:
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Embassy of Switzerland in the Norway.
Whether you are a Swiss tourist visiting Norway, a Swiss citizen residing in this State or the representative of a Swiss company interested or involved in this country, here you will find useful information on some facets of the friendly and long-lasting relations between Switzerland and the Kingdom of Norway.
Switzerland opened a consulate in Oslo in 1847 (which was upgraded to a consulate general in 1921). Norway established a consulate general in Zurich in 1906. In 1918, the Norwegian ambassador in Rome was accredited to Bern and the Swiss representative in Stockholm was accredited to Oslo. The legations that were opened in Bern and Oslo after the Second World War were upgraded to Embassies in 1955 and 1957 respectively. Since 1951, the Swiss ambassador in Oslo is also accredited to Iceland.
As the official representation of Switzerland, the embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic and financial affairs, legal arrangements, science, education and culture. It strives to maintain and develop existing ties, to further bilateral cooperation and to promote and protect the interests of Switzerland and of its citizens. You will also discover that this Embassy pursues similar objectives in the Republic of Iceland.
Consular services are provided by the Regional Consular Center in Stockholm. For consular matters you are invited to contact the center directly. The link consular services provides information on consular issues, such as passports and identity cards, civil status affairs, political rights and legalizations. It also advises on how the Embassy or the Swiss honorary consulates in Norway and Iceland can support Swiss citizens in case of need. Under visa and entry to Switzerland, the Swiss regulations relevant to this field are described.
This site is also an entrance door for those interested in Switzerland. Thanks to links to Swiss authorities or institutions and to the Swiss federal administration, access is given to a variety of constantly updated information on Switzerland and to concise answers to the most frequently asked questions.
I hope that you will enjoy your visit on this site and I invite you to submit (oslo@eda.admin.ch) your possible comments or suggestions. Your feedback will help us to improve the flow of information and to assist you better. Please, do not hesitate to contact us in case you wish further assistance from the Embassy.
